  1. I have a movie of the Herky that was pulled by chains by the Marines. It really tore up the fron of the aircraft. Last time I saw it, it was in a "bone yard".

I went back to Taichung on business around 1995. The city had changed so much it was unrecognizable. I went to visit a shoe company and travled by car from Taipei to Taichung via freeway. Seem to take no time. Remember the road between the two cities in the late 60's? We hired a taxi to go back to Taipei and I thought we would never make it alive. Took all day.
  3. I went through my old files and found a complete list of combat crews stationed at CCK during my stay. Lots of old names were on the list including my old roomie (Bill Markley) and my engineer (Bill Guy). Would be nice to get in touch with some of the old gang.
  4. A little after me but I'm sure not much change at the base after I left and you arrived. Where did you go TDY?
  5. "Form F". That was it. I really can't remember filling out a Form F but I'm sure I did. I know I computed the W&B but not sure if the form found it's way to anyone. To this day I can still load a truck by standing back and looking at the cargo and the space and make it come out pretty good. However, no MAC on a truck.

Hey, isn't that the VD Special in one of the photo's?
  7. From SAC HQ over general airwaves: "Sky King, Sky King, do not answer. Relay Bravo, Tango, Whisky, 1 9er 9er, Delta, Fox Trot, 3,4, 9er, OUT" After a short silence a reply, "This is Sky King in the Song Bird, who's callling"
  8. We never used them "in country" but everywhere else we had to file a report called ???? One of our crew's should have used it though. Took off too heavy out of a front line fire fight and plowed into a CAT crossing the end of the runway. I took a movie (still have it) of the Herky Bird making a no wheels lading at Cam Ranh. Troops and crew made it out OK but the aircraft was a total loss.
  9. Anybody out there remember "Slip Sticks"? During a recent air show I took a walk acound a "J" model. I asked the young Loadmaster if they were still in use. "No, but I've heard of them", he replied.
  10. My aircraft was in that video. While I was offloading my AC was haming it up with the camera crew. He was helping a PAX through the port side troop door with no steps. Emagine my shock when some 30 years (or more) later I saw it on the TV series "Wings". Also, our group was responsible for developing some of the "new" offload procedures and modifying the rear door with "skids" to unload while taxing down the ramp.
  11. I just discovered this site and was wondering if there are any of "the guys" around that were stationed at CCK. I was a Loadmaster on the C-130E and was stationed at CCK between Feb 1967 and Jun 1968.
  12. How about the call sign "Sky King"
  13. I don't know if I worked on "Patches" but I was flying in and out of Khe Sanh during the entire seige. I was a loadmaster on the E model, TDY at Tuy Hua or Cam Rahn out of CCK.
