We launched as a two-ship formation of C-130Js, taking off into the night well after the darkness had fallen. Maintaining an altitude of 500 feet above the desert terrain we continuously updated our position to remain clear of Egyptian airspace and the Jordanian buffer region. The U.S. Air Force C-130J Super Hercules has made its debut in Operation Christmas Drop 2017. Over the past year, Yokota Air Base has transitioned from the C-130H Hercules to the newer C-130J model. The United States has offered Niger an ex-US Air Force WC-130H Hercules aircraft under its Excess Defense Articles (EDA) programme. The most recent EDA database notes that the Hercules was offered on 9 November 2015, but has yet to be accepted.
