topboltsto400
are these the "Talon III"?
HeyChief
are these the "Talon III"? Last I understood it before I left the Puzzle Palace, these were not to be a "Talon III" However, they may be eventually "spiral" developed until they end up with similar capabilities. Only time will tell..the "plus 3 + 7=10"(now MC-130W) was supposed to be a Talon 2 crew trainer then spiraled into the post-AMP MC-130H. Now I'm not sure what it is with Dragon spear. Blackmac_Project
MC-130W has become the Shadow + meets the half assed AC-130W...... Hopefully the MC-130J's won't meet the same fate. Engine Mike
keepemflying130
Had a nice 'package' as far as external equip. "If that does not sound to domestic partner". I am sure it will kick ass. Say what you want, but the J is a bad mo''fo.
hc130radio
Hopefully the AFSOCer's will not remove the RO from the ShadowJ. With all the additional systems on the Wiskey, the RO could be a great asset on that aircraft.

Pretty sure they decided not to go with an RO for the J.

There is not going to be an RO on the HC-130J, MC-130J, AC-130J....etc. If anything, AFSOC will add a second CSO.
hc130radio
What a waste and a mistake. Not trying to talk back on CSOs/EWOs but an RO can do their job - hell Marine KC-130 Navs are enlisted. I've been on far too many exercises where I have had to teach these guys how to operate their own radios before takeoff.
US Herk
I've been on far too many exercises where I have had to teach these guys how to operate their own radios before takeoff.Maybe that's because radios aren't their primary job... ;)
hc130radio
Well, they got the checkride - not me, and they've got to train like they fight.
US Herk
Well, they got the checkride - not me, and they've got to train like they fight. Haha...good. Yes, the RO union did force the radios into the Form 48s and 202-V2 a few years back for other crew positions...doesn't mean evaluators don't exercise good judgement on checkrides and prioritize appropriately. Where those of us w/o an RO miss them is inflight trouble-shooting, not loading or operating. There's ways around everything though... ...and the radios/keyers/crypto are far more reliable than they used to be anyway... Personally, I don't like the merger of the Nav/EWO union very much - I prefer specialists. But the AF has long been going away from specialists...so we're stuck with CSO. I'd rather have 2 x CSO than 1 x CSO and 1 x RO any day for the low-level mission...
Jmodel
Anyone know the details as far as setting up a school house for the MC-130J? Will there be one? Does anyone know if they are putting all the birds at cannon? Or will they base them in other places? How many birds is cannon expecting? Does anyone know when they will be getting their first one?
