The company was in a vulnerable position, and the enemy was closing in rapidly. The officer in charge gave orders to beat a hasty retreat, and as they did so the bullets flew thick and fast past them as they ran for their lives. At the conclusion of his narration, one of the listeners asked him if he was scared.
