Metalbasher
Anyone know which Herk this was? Thanks Bob Bob, Acft #74-2072 donated the nose for the Afghan destined acft and was taken to Warrior Air Base for training use.
bobdaley
The picture Casey posted looks like it is more than just part of a herk? Did they put the two unused parts together? That would be expensive? Thanks Bob
Railrunner130
That looks like it could be the case. The paint doesn't match before and aft of the crew entrance door. The front looks like it's been crash landed a few too many times. I imagine the sheet metal work to put the two pieces together wasn't all that difficult. DC10FE
The rear portion is most likely an H-model with the APU rather than a GTC. Don R.
Metalbasher
The rear portion is most likely an H-model with the APU rather than a GTC. Don R. They were both H models. Acft 74-1665 (delivered in 75) sustained severe damage to the forward nose section (FS 245 forward) due hard landing. Acft 74-2072 (delivered in 76) was destined for AMARG, so they took the forward fuselage from 74-2072 and put it on 1665s fuselage. After the nose swap, they put the damaged nose (from 1665) on 2072's fuselage, hence the color mismatch between the forward fuselage and aft fuselage (aft of FS 245) and moved it to warrior air base training area for EDMX/CLSS training.
