casey
Members of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VR) 62, based at NAS Jacksonville, are one of five Navy Reserve C-130T squadrons supporting the fleet around the globe. The VR-62 Nomads regularly execute detachments in Pacific Command and Central Command. The normal Navy C-130 rotation is to complete three theater detachments per year. During the detachment cycle, the squadron’s remaining aircraft are tasked by the Navy Air Logistics Office for missions in support of the fleet in all parts of the world. The Navy C-130 wing is part of the unique Fleet Essential Airlift – meaning that the U.S. Navy has control of its own airlift. The Fleet Logistics Support Wing is a Navy Reserve entity and has no active duty counterpart. VR-62 has proven over time that the Nomads can meet all requests with responsiveness, adaptability and flexibility to serve its Navy customers around the globe, whenever or and wherever needs dictate. The Nomads have supported operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Tomodachi. Most recently, they have transported in excess of 40,000 passengers and more than 50 million pounds of cargo since they began flying the C-130T Hercules.
