  1. In 1971, with Don Maw and Jack Jordan we demo\'d an E model to the Belgian AF and the King at Brussels. Great time.

My four favorite non US groups I worked with the Belgians, the RAF, and the Bolivians and the Brazilians. They were all great, different ways of operating, but all professionals.

  2. The 64-65-66 HC130H\'s for the USAF had -15 engines.

They were really E\'s with -15 engines. This is where it gets goofy!

Some of those HC-130H\'s (15)became WC-130H\'s.Some of these were made into slicks.

WRB in their infinite wisdom changed the designation of the slicks to C-130E, they still had -15\'s. The reason I was given was that once they were demoded they were systems wise similar to the 1964 E\'s.

Current example 64-14859 at MLD is carried as a C130E.Bob

  3. Just a guess, when the Coast Guard bought its first H\'s the 1400, 1500, 1600\'s they had -15 engines on them. Then to save a nickel they took the old -7 engines off the B\'s and hung them on 10 brand new HC-130H\'s.

Then they realized not such a good idea and hung -15\'s on them.

Could it have been how they differentiated H\'s with -15\'s from H-7\'s?

  4. The 123\'s were assigned to Base Flight down at the east end past Base Ops. I knew one of the pilots pretty well, Jake Green. He hung out at the bar and was buddies with Tery Oldham in the 37th.

I later met him in Dallas and he was flying for Braniff.

I used to see them a lot early in the AM. They would fly low and slow over Langley just as the sun came up spraying mosquitos.

  5. We had C-130\'s and C-123\'s at Langley when I was there, 1969 to 1973.

I never heard of any 130 spray missions or saw any 130\'s with tanks for spraying or spray bars.

The 123\'s were all equipped for spraying. They flew mosquito spray missions in VA and all over the East Coast. They all had tanks and spray bars on them. Since most of them had come back to Langley from Vietnam it would be a good bet that they had previously sprayed agent orange, but I never heard of it being used stateside in aerial spraying, but of course that doesn\'t mean it didn\'t happen. There have been agent orange contaminated sites in the US, and they must have tested it somewhere. Maybe you can find someone who flew the 123\'s stateside.

  6. There was one that looked like that in the Azores.

I thought it might be Sao Jorge but I found a picture at azoresairphotos and it is not. I\'ll try to attach it.

I think there are nine airports in the Azores, I have no charts to check it, and I have only landed at 2 Lajes and Santa Maria.

  7. I saw the article. 63-7868 was the last E to leave, going to LRF.

62-1823 and 63-7823 were also at LRF, 63-7884 was reported at Ramstein and no sign of 62-1811 and 17.

  8. There are 17 new inputs to AMARC on the ramp there now.

    The ones I have been told about are 62-1808, 1810, 1816, 1837, 1864,63-7770, 7782, 7818, 7837, 7865, 7871, 7885, 7889, 64-0502, 0512, 17681, 72-1292.

Interesting, 72-1292 was inspected and not restricted and 62-1864 was unrestricted. The rest were all restricted or grounded.

PS Added a few more, seems there sre only 5 restricted E\'s still on the flight lines. All at Little Rock.

  9. Last I saw the E models at Pope were almost gone.

    There were only 6 left.62-1811,1817,1823 63-7823,7869,7884.

Does any one know if they are all gone and replaced by H\'s?

    Thanks

  10. Hi

Just read that 63-7865 departed Ramstein for the Boneyard.

Anyone know if it is stopping at Little Rock?

Anyone know its call sign and maybe we can flight track it?

    Thanks

    Bob
