  1. Hey Roy,

My girlfriend left to attended her son's graduation from Army basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood. Her flight to St. Louis, via ATL, on Delta was canceled on the Tuesday and she was rebooked on another flight on the same day -- also canceled. She finally got there yesterday (Wednesday) and is watching him graduate today. They told her that the post had been on lock-down on Tuesday -- no one could get on or off the base. What a freekin' horror story. All that time, it was in the high 70's here in Tampa!!!

Another hijacked thread, but to get back to the subject, I've heard that there's a retired 772nd FE at Dyess that maintains the A-model there -- a little skinny guy named Leslie Squires. You remember him, Roy? Can anybody confirm?

    Don R.

    Don,

I remember flying occasionally with Les Squires in the 772nd, though I didn't know he was in the area or maintaining the airplane. I don't remember any of his history prior to the 772nd. Visited Dyess last November and was as much amazed about what had changed as I was about what was still the same, including Abilene. The big new building housing the C-130 squadrons sets over the site where the 772nd and 773rd buildings used to be.

  2. Jim, I was up at Dobbins today around 3:30 PM and I guess it was you in that beautiful new gray bird flying downwind...congrats on providing great airframe to the AF.

    Muff

    Muff,

That was most likely us, we were coming into MGE about that time. I don't think another Herc was in the pattern. Pretty good looking airplane, I think.

  3. Skip, anybody told Flame and Dirt Bag about # 7785,she was their favorite? My last flight before retiring was on her from Udon-Thanni to Kadena summer of '94. 10.5 hours on 3 motors. Will never forget bagging a motor while on the boom. Was also on # 567 at Rio-Hato. When, if my memory serves me right, you and Harvey hit the tree and departed with only 3 turning. We spent the rest of the night FARRP, ing the little birds then left without enough gas to get home unless the the tanker was still around. Thankfully the 135 was still hanging around.

  4. Here is a close-up side view of 551's teeth, and a few motley crew dogs...Hi, Skip...

Motely? John you know better, we were just relaxing our grooming standards.

  5. But the question is what serial goes with what C/N???

It is a pain in the butt keeping the -J tails straight, since each unit gets individual numbers.

  6. Why do you think Lockheed isn't working on developing a new aircraft for the future? As far -J bashing, hasn't it proven itself to be a good aircraft? So what if Lockheed has grown and diversified, they still have a pretty successful aeronautical division that continues to make damn good airplanes. So whats the beef with a company making a profit? Lockheed went out on limb with the -J development and no customers.
