from 72-76 worked on 57-491 and 492 (lst 2 C-130D-6s -skis) in Greenland and AK ELM. Got to load the JATO bottles and work outside all the time up there in Nov-December 73

So also 57 model As at ELM AK, old 3 blade props.

Then Es at Dyess, and actually took delivery of a brand new H about late 75, at least by Spring 76. Had 4 hours on it, had a new airplane smell, just landed from the flight from Lockheed. (and checkout flights but we grounded them several times for dumb engineering that was done... like Aluminum cable from battery all the way back to the APU. It corroded and left me stuck at an Army base for a week until we got it signed off since that was the first failure, no replacements yet.

I had the good fortune to then go back to school and then design jet engines. Just finished up at what was Allison (the T-56) is now Rolls-Royce where I worked on the latest incarnation of the T-56, now the AE2100 on the V-22. That engine is going to last forever.

But, like everyone else on this site and quickly grew to love 130s, flew all over Europe and Middle East in an E, into Iraq to help the Kurds. I didnt know who they were at the time or why they were all trying to kill each other, just after the Arab - Israeli war, didnt pay any attention to that at the time either, even though we went on world wide alert at the time. I just remember being stuck on base working.

Only let me down that one time with the new H at Ft Bragg after dropping everyone in the trees and filling the local hospitals.

  1. That one sitting in the water looks a lot like a Shinmaywa, now the US-2 with RRC (Allison) AE2100s, a beefed up T-56. Sure glad the 130 did not come out looking like that curved up nose thing.
