  1. I'm not aware of any mishaps concerning a vent plug. I do know that there was an incident where pieces of plastic have covered one of the vent screens under the wing but it was discovered before any damage was done. There was also another incident last summer where another piece of plastic was left in a fuel vent line causing major structural damage to the right wing. So much damage that the wing was replaced.

  2. I don't have an exact number but there are a lot of Herks on the deck here. The PDM docks alone have 6 right now. I'm guessing but functional test has anywhere from 8-10. There are a couple more getting center wing boxes done. There are many more just sitting on the line waiting for their turn. So 47 sounds like it could be right and to be honest I don't think it's that uncommon for Robins to have that many aircraft on station.

  3. not really hard at all if you have done it before and have the tooling. I led a team that completed a complete center wing box swap out and rainbow/ corner fitting change in 90 calendar days. WR takes months and months and monts.

    Not entirely true. The aircraft gets a lot more than center wing box and rainbow fitting swaps here.

  4. I have seen a lot of leaks develop in this area due to improper hardware installed in the wing splice panel...If longer screws were used in this area it would negate the sealed nut plates in the main tanks.

    This is a good point as well. We had one last week where this occurred. The domenuts at the front and back ends of the splice panel have particular length screws that must be used. If you put one in that is too long the seal on the nutplate will be lost and you will certainly get a leak.

Hi, lately I have been working in an C-130E because we have a fuel leak around number 3 tank but I can´t find anything, we already retorque the booster pump panel acces, I checked the dry bay number three and center and behind flap wheel, but everything is dry there is any fuel. It starts to leak when we are between 15000 througt 18000 ft high and is visible near to the morring point in rh. I would like to get some information to get the leak fixed up.

    Not sure this question is posted in the right area but I'm sure the mods will place this in the appropriate section.

    As for your leak the best thing to do is to pressurize the tank using a manometer. Use leak detect solution (soapy water) on the entire wing upper, lower, dry bay, and flap well surfaces. This is the best way to identify a leak. We use this method everyday at the depot. Send me a private message if you have any other questions.

    Not only do you get to pull and replace all the panels, you get to set all the AGE up for the pointy heads - how about pulling a full shift just setting up AGE on your jet:eek:

    Friggin ACE air cond, you might go through two or three before you get one that the clutch engaged on, same with the LCS (liquid cooling system) cart.

    Then lets not talk about paralleling four MEP generators together.

    I was sooooo glad to crosstrain, no pointy head AGE anymore:D

    I feel your pain my friend. I crewed those things at Geilenkirchen for a couple of years. I guess in reality, removing a panel or two here or there wasn't such a bad thing. ;)

  7. A/R for life, gainfully employed these days at cannon, seems that we are always ETICing for the high wind inspections (and 90% of the time lose the line) that somehow only A/R can do and the crew chiefs on the line can't get signed off on even though its a APG function.

    but on the side note its a cool coin

    Aren't A/R and crew chief's one and the same? :D
