  1. Awww come on, living on central was fun!

I know why guys live in the mountains - that way you get to score a couple extra days a year off, \"sorry snowed in and cant make it to yet another mindless meeting today\" (that and its buttloads cheaper too).

  2. The original post is talking about the ones that fit into the galley up front, designed for coffee.

I don\'t know how our -21 people fix/repair/replace these, nor an I sure its -21. Hell may be flight kitchen for all I know, but I DO KNOW that if the ground pin is missing and you come off the top of the plane soaking wet, the put a hand on the jug while having your other hand is on the metal galley wall you will electrocute the sh*t out of yourself:woohoo:

  3. So money is the reason for the overseas units to stay there this time?

Every other time they have tried commando vision (or whatever its current trendy name) its been PACAF that cut AFSOC\'s throat in the end because they refused to relinquish control of the Talons and Shadows.

  5. As to the 6th SOS, that assignment can be great or horrible depending on just what you want out of your career. Get to learn another language and be gone most of the time to your selected area of the world thats cool, but when I retired they were gone lots and lots! I wont say any more about it simply because I am not sure what the classification status of those guys and their mission are.

The other guys are right, the MC-130P is always in need of people. I was at the 9th from 93-98 and 01-04 (at Eglin, next door to Hurlburt) and I don\'t think we ever had a full roster of loadmasters.

I am not sure what the reserve status is for the 5th SOS which was/is our associate squadron, but if they come out of the picture AFSOC will need to about double the 9ths manpower to make up for it. Downside of the 9th and the MC-P? If your there long enough you will get tapped to serve a sentence at Kirtland with the schoolhouse (a non voluntary voluntary assignment, thats where I was 98 - 01) or maybe England or Okinawa depending on what they do with commando vision or whatever they are calling the proposed restructuring now.

You could also put in for the Womabat, the MC-W, but that would put you at Cannon in North Mexico, uh I mean New Mexico for an assignment but I would image there will be some sweet Pacific or Alaska TDY\'s out of that squadron.

I really loved flying with the P models, lots of fun. Much more than just a fuel truck LOL

I have trouble seeing then letting you go from Dyess sooner than two years on station (and that only with luck and some deals being made) but on the plus side that gives you a couple of years to work with your functional (or dysfunctional if he is like some of the FE guys we had there) as well as getting a hold of your contemporary\'s on your desired airframe and squadron.

    Good luck

  6. Okay, I don\'t know what the initials stand for exactly but the concept is a herk is good for 48K hours of straight air land trash hauling runs, low level, assaults and general tac work decrease that number so you could be bagging aircraft and turning them into beer cans at 30K or earlier instead of 48K because usage turns the 30K into an \"equivalent\" 48K.

What really amazes me is none of this crap happened until big money (lockheed) started getting flak from congress and they wanted to cancel the J model. People can defend lockheed all they want but there ARE ulterior motive at work and they are not even subtle about it.

Like when a couple of years before I retired they came out and said \"all your VMCA speeds are 15-30 knots low, new speeds will be in your new 1-1 BUT YOU CAN USE THE OLD SPEEDS UNTIL THEN\"!!!! Now this is just horsecrap, they aren\'t even trying to play the game because they know they run the air force and can get away with it.

Would I crew one of these \"exceeded EBH\" aircraft for combat and tac work? Hell yes. Is the risk elevated probably but do I really believe lockwasher to give a real answer on just what that risk is, probably about as much as I believe anything bill or hillary has to say (that means NO)

  7. Now correct me if I am wrong, but from what I understand the way things work now is a bird is grounded/retired when it hits x number of EBH hours and not necessarily when there is a serious problem.

So in theory, perfectly good aircraft, that are needed are unnecessarily grounded because Lockheed wants to make the older aircraft unproductive and out of the running for budget dollars.

Is that right or way out in left field.

  8. I purposly made sure that there wasnt any such crap as a \"homeowners Assosiation\" when I bought my house. Several years back, some whacko was wanting to start one up..... lets just say in the end they moved out :)

Yeah thats like paying someone to tell you that you cant do what you want with what your paying for - whatta crock.

So what the Hell, I\'ll buy it!

  9. Ya know, looking at that pic lf 979 with all that wing load makes me wonder... Who needs bombers to deliver cruise missiles, mod the wings and give em to J models, think of all the bucks you could save.

Load it up with troops or whatever for a S.A.M. mission, climb up drop your missiles and head on to the next frag\'ed stop LOL
