One more MC-130E question! Is the 711 SOS going to lose its MC-130E's and become an associate Sq? Thanks Bob

Just curious, I saw an article about the first J for Ramstein. It said that Ramstein will receive 14 J models over the next 12 months. Then Lockheed is going to start deliveries to Dyess. There have been recent stories about the H models at Dyess getting new wings. 3 or 4 have already been replaced. What are they going to do with the H's? It seems like they would replace the E's at LRF before they replaced the H's at Dyess with new wings? Maybe they are sending the H's to LRF? Bob

I googled it yesterday and found that it was part of the global war on terror and part of the Air National Guard budget but that was all I found. Bob -

Help me if you can...looking for info on a particular model
bobdaley replied to Just5cents's topic in C-130 Historical
The plane pictured is an A model. There ios no other A model with the numbers 460. It is 57-0460 Lockheed number 3167 I attached a picture of it in the Museum at Dulles. Look in the Gallery under 3167 for more pictures. It started out its career in Europe at Evreaux in 1958 and stayed there until we got kicked out of France in 1967. It came back to Lockbourne AFB now called Rickenbacker ANGB in Ohio. It went to the AFRES at Richards Gebaur AFB MO in 1971. It was sent to the SVAF as part of Project Enhance Plus in Nov 1972. It was flown by the SVAF 435 Sqn with the tail letters HCF repatriated in 1975. Then to the 704 TAS AFRES at Ellington AFRB in 1976 it went to the 63 TAS AFRES at Selfridge AFB. Later to the 95 TAS AFRES at Milwaukee and to Air and Space Museum in 1989. Bob -
There are lots of H designators but quickly H early H models; H2, H2.5, H3 primarily have to do with the cockpit night vision capabilities. H-7 was assigned to USCG H's that kept the old -7 engines off the B models instead of new -15's. There are no more -7's as the USCG replaced all the -7 engines with -15's and they are now all H's. When I was at CCK in 72-73 we had 6 squadrons 4 PCS with 16 E's each and there were 4 PCS E model squadrons there. I remember flying with Reed Mulkey then when he was in maintenance and he said they had almost 100 E's between the TDY and PCS aircraft. Bob

I got a picture of a C130 wreck at I think Camp Halloway near Pleiku. A long time ago I heard it crashed at Pleiku and some Viet Namese were living in it at Halloway. I have never been able to confirm it but there were only 2 Herks, that I know of, lost near Pleiku. 61-0953 lost landing short March 66, and 61-0972 shot down east of Pleiku January 66. My guess is it would be 953, anyone know for sure? Thanks Bob
