Bill outstanding job you folks did on the paint job. I often drive by on Atlanta road or on visits to the credit union and just brings back great memories of my time at Naha, Mactan, Clark, CCK, TSN, and Kadena. Congratulations for the great job. Muff

  2. I've been away from flying the mighty Herk for about 30 plus years and I was wondering about the new AF....is it still a rule that that drinking in not allowed within 50 feet of an airplane except for a cool beer on the aft cargo ramp from the case that the load had stored in the cargo door all day. As we were waiting for the crew van to pick us up. I also heard a bad rumor that there is no smoking on any AF planes except for single seat fighter jets. Sure glad I'm retired.

  3. CMSgt Samuel F. McGoldrick (Retired) under went heart valve replacement surgery Wednesday a week ago. The surgeon had to perform a By-pass and eliminate false electrical impulses as well. Sam has been in a sedated state for an entire week to allow healing to occur. Tomorrow (Thursday) the Physician is going to first remove a bladder pump that has been used to assist his heart during recovery. Sam has been holding his own, Pulse, Pressure, Temperature, Urine flow are all great. The breathing and feeding tube will probably remain a while. I do not know when they will allow Sam to wake from sedation. Sam is in the ST Vincent’s infirmary Hospital in Little Rock Arkansas. St. Vincent’s is a 4 Star medical facility. Sam’s wife Sachiko and daughter Nana are by his side. Prayers for Sam’s complete recovery are requested.

  5. WASHINGTON -- Starting this month, the Defense Department will calculate imminent-danger pay by the day rather than the month, a cost-cutting move the department estimated last year could save $30 million annually.

Up to now, servicemembers received a full month’s imminent-danger pay -- $225 -- for spending even a single day in designated hazardous areas, which range from war zones such as Afghanistan to out-of-the-way spots like Montenegro.

But beginning Feb. 1, they’ll get the extra pay only for days they’re actually present in the danger zones. The prorated daily amount works out to $7.50.

“This is a more targeted way of handling that pay,†Pentagon spokesman Capt. John Kirby said Thursday.

The exception is for troops exposed to hostile fire.

“If you take fire, you get the full $225,†regardless of time spent in the area, said DoD spokeswoman Eileen Lainez.

The change, signed into law by President Barrack Obama on Dec. 31 as part of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act, should have little effect on troops on long-term deployments in hazardous areas. But it could reduce the paychecks of officers making short visits to designated locations or Sailors passing through them, Lainez said.

If I remember correctly....we "took fire" at every stop we made with the Herk in VN.

  6. Here is the latest from those "NO CLUE" civilians in Washington who needs an enemy when we have these folks!

    the Air Force will:

    Eliminate 123 fighters (102 A-10s and 21 older F-16s), 133 mobility aircraft (27 C-5As, 21 C-27s, 65 C-130s, and 20 KC-135s), and 30 intelligence platforms (18 Global Hawk Block 30s, 11 RC-26s, and one E-8).

Trim the Total Force by 9,900 airmen, building upon the reductions of 48,000 personnel since 2004.

Terminate or restructure programs like the B-2 extremely high-frequency radio improvements and the family of advanced beyond line of sight terminals.

Replace "expensive programs" like the C-130 Avionics Modernization Program "with more affordable alternatives that still accomplish the mission."

Discontinue or defer programs including the common vertical lift support platform, light mobility aircraft, and light attack and armed reconnaissance airplane.

  7. Don, I do not know about the A-10 but about once a month while I lived there (just nortth of the base) a Herk would fly into MacDill to provide a platform for the Central Command and Special Ops guys to get their required jumps in to stay qualified for their jump pay. The A-10 might have been a photo op plane just a guess.
