  1. The raid on Entebbe was the basic scheme for the Belgian Para-commando Regiment, when they took part in the operation Red Bean at Kolwezi, (Congo), on May 20, 1978. Prior to this operation, some exercises were held to test the operational value of this scheme. Red Bean was executed with 10 C-130 of the Belgian 15 Wing. In less than two hours the complete Regiment was transported from Kamina, (BAKA), to Kolwezi.

There used to be a complete report written by LtCol Thomas Odom, but as I tried the link, it seems the pages are no longer available.

    Greetz,

  2. Hi,

I was looking for pictures of Evergreen C-130's who flew missions for the US Army in Iraq. Unfortunatly, I cannot find any information on this subject. Is there anyone who can send me a link to a good article, (or pictures), on this?

    Thanks in advance and regards,

  3. JP, Thank you very much for the link! And please send me your 'real' address (maybe with a personal message), I think I have some pictures for you. But it is to much to send it by email...

    Regards

    Stephan

    Hello Stephan,

Yesterday I received the CD. Many, many thanks!!

I will send you a PM.

    Regards,

  4. I didn't say I saw the plane at Ramstein, I saw it at Brussels International. I'm not sure at all that they are stationed in Ramstein, that's why I posted my question. It's my guess that they are stationed at Ramstein, but it may be at any AFB in the world. The plane came from Ramstein, (stop ?), and had to make a technical stop in Brussels. That's all.

  5. Go to the AWRA (Aerial Weather Reconnaissance Association) home page and see if anyone there will help you. There already is an article on the WC-130 titled Whiskey Charlie.

    Best wishes,

    Grant

    Hello Grant,

I'm in contact with your President, Bob T and some other board members. Thanks for the offer.

  6. Hello JP that stuff I had you go to was my old mission during the war in vietnam! We did it for 2 yrs! It lasted about 4yrs! Actually we developed how to do it without beating the airplane badly! But we did have the ocasional beating! Messing with thunderstorms can get occasionally rough! Hope you can use some of that stuff.

  8. I sure do miss Brindisi. That place was awesome! Of course I got there in 96 so i missed out on the good per diem. Thank you all for the posts.

I found another one, the 509 in Nam. (Vietnam was called "Indochina" in Europe, when the french were there). As to Brindisi, it a "stop" for the Belgian C-130's. In 96 you sure must have seen some of them, in a grey colour scheme and black nose. Anyhow here's the link to the gunschip:

  9. Gentlemen,

I am preparing an article for my website on the C-130. I am looking for pilots and crewmembers who flew weather recon, in order to offer a great article to the readers and visitors of the website.

Please contact me on the following e-mail address:

Thanks in advance to all of you.

This one comes very close to the one I saw at Brussels International. Now I've seen this picture I am wondering if I'm not mistaken about the NATO-green. It is possible it had a grey colour scheme. It's an EC-130V, equiped with an APS 145 radar.

    Hello Dan,

This is a picture I found while surfing in search of an AWACS C-130. It's a scale model US Coast Guard. The one I saw was painted NATO-green, and if I'm not mistaken with a black nose. I watched the plane taking off. A strange bird if you ask me.

Thanks for the explanation on Ramstein, and greetz.

  12. It may have been a Navy Neptune. I did see them on the ramp.

3 blades, 4 blades and 6 blades, (C-130J), but I never heard of two sets of blades. And a Navy Neptune doesn't even look like a C-130, LOL.

On my website you can see a pic of a British C-130 equiped with an A400M engine and 6 bladed propellers, third row, first picture, but it has only one set of blades.

    Cheers ! :)

  13. I saw one, not long ago, at Brussels International, (EBBR). I made some inquiries. Seems that plane came from Ramstein AFB in Germany, and made a stop in Brussels due to a technical problem, which was repaired within the hour.

Anyone who knows if an Awacs C-130 is stationed in Ramstein?

    Greetz,
