The raid on Entebbe was the basic scheme for the Belgian Para-commando Regiment, when they took part in the operation Red Bean at Kolwezi, (Congo), on May 20, 1978. Prior to this operation, some exercises were held to test the operational value of this scheme. Red Bean was executed with 10 C-130 of the Belgian 15 Wing. In less than two hours the complete Regiment was transported from Kamina, (BAKA), to Kolwezi. I didn't say I saw the plane at Ramstein, I saw it at Brussels International. I'm not sure at all that they are stationed in Ramstein, that's why I posted my question. It's my guess that they are stationed at Ramstein, but it may be at any AFB in the world. The plane came from Ramstein, (stop ?), and had to make a technical stop in Brussels. That's all.

I found another one, the 509 in Nam. (Vietnam was called "Indochina" in Europe, when the french were there). As to Brindisi, it a "stop" for the Belgian C-130's. In 96 you sure must have seen some of them, in a grey colour scheme and black nose. This one comes very close to the one I saw at Brussels International. Now I've seen this picture I am wondering if I'm not mistaken about the NATO-green. It is possible it had a grey colour scheme. It's an EC-130V, equiped with an APS 145 radar.

Hello Dan, This is a picture I found while surfing in search of an AWACS C-130. It's a scale model US Coast Guard. The one I saw was painted NATO-green, and if I'm not mistaken with a black nose. I watched the plane taking off. A strange bird if you ask me. Thanks for the explanation on Ramstein, and greetz.

I'm not sure about this, but if I'm not mistaken an AC-130A was standing-by at Assencion Island, during operation "Red Bean" in 1978, the second Shaba War in Kolwezi. I'll try to check this out !

3 blades, 4 blades and 6 blades, (C-130J), but I never heard of two sets of blades. And a Navy Neptune doesn't even look like a C-130, LOL. On my website you can see a pic of a British C-130 equiped with an A400M engine and 6 bladed propellers, third row, first picture, but it has only one set of blades. Cheers ! :)

I saw one, not long ago, at Brussels International, (EBBR). I made some inquiries. Seems that plane came from Ramstein AFB in Germany, and made a stop in Brussels due to a technical problem, which was repaired within the hour. Anyone who knows if an Awacs C-130 is stationed in Ramstein? Greetz,
