  1. Thanks for taking the time to talk to your guys. Sadly we've already tried that. We've done novram flushes(I think thats how you spell it) on both mission computers a few times in different ways. Nothing seemed to work. I think its something were going to have to live with for awhile. One of the quirks to these damn computers.

Theres nothing to the system so it shouldnt have hard to fix but its driving us crazy.

  2. Pointyhead, we get this problem in our hanger so I dont think its temp related. I have seen some temp stuff before so I agree its a problem. Just not for this one. The connectors is a possibilty but we've changed the quadrant twice, once for this and once for a "sticky throttle"(damn pilots). Anyways I think were going to have this plane in the hanger so I can work with it. I think Im going to piggy back an ADC without removing the pitot and static lines and see what that does.

If you wouldnt mind asking those guys that would be cool. When I talked to my lockheed guy he said do a NAVRAM flush and it should take care of it. Didnt work.

  3. Ok for any J guys out there my unit needs some help.

We have one plane that has an auto throttle fault ACAWS(advisory). The system is fully operational. It works on the ground and in the air. We've done IBITS and data-bus checks. We've replaced throttle quadrants and AFCPs and control panels. Weve done NAVRAM flushes to clear the mission computers. Im pretty sure we have done EVERY thing.

If anyone has any ideas ill shut gun the hell out of this plane to fix it.

  4. e-city??

    No it doesnt!

    Should it??

No it doesnt have to, If your with the J model program I used to fly with your exchange pilot that was down here with us. I was just wondering if you were him. If you dont know him hes a great pilot and awesome guy.

  5. Everything in this thread has been correct so far. Auto throttles; check. Free turbine; check. No FE; check. In the coast guard the load sits in the third seat and monitors the pilidiots.

Im maintaince and crew on the J any other questions I'll do my best to help answer.

hey hklm, e-city doesnt happen to ring a bell does it?

  6. Holy smokes, its a small herc world! I was just in St Johns, Newfoundland with these guys. We were there for a mission and they were bringing their first plane home. I got to look around, pretty neat, much better then our H models. But nothing like our J model, sorry legacy guys.;) They were broke while we were there so we had to give them our hanger space but later we all had steak and lobster. Great guys.

  7. Alot of our prior H/E pilots love the J. They love the crew on the H but cant live without the HUD.

Having said that, I love the J, its new, its fast(for a c130), and its sexier but I think it would be better to go to the legacy and transition to the J. Itll be easier to go forward then backward. Out with the old in with the new. More shock and awe factor.

For what its worth im a load in the Coast Guard, and I sit in the third seat in a J.

  8. Ive tried that spectre app. Its ok but it leaves alot to be desired. Could be a cool game but it isnt. Besides being able to kill time in between loads its not very benificial.

Ive looked and looked. Couldnt find any yet. Ive even looked into making my own. It actually doesnt seem that hard. Just need to learn a little code and spend a few hours. Hopfully.

Anyone else seen anything? Hell if its a CG calculator, really anything that would help us out.

  9. Wouldn't it be easy to use a "scramble channel" like some PD's use when they're discussing things that shouldn't fall on public ears? Yes, they're regular UHF/VHF freqs or whatever PD's use, and anyone with a scanner can hear them, but the encoding/scrambling makes it sound like two drunk guys babbling back and forth.

Im sure you could do that but can you justify adding all that when there is already a proven efficent CHEAPER way of doing it? Even if you tear up a cord every 5 flights its still WAY cheaper then outfitting one plane with wireless headsets.

To make it really secure you would need something with codes, then thats one more set of codes needed on the plane.

  10. Does anyone know of any apps relating to c130s? Im pretty much looking for any load master aids. A form F filler would be amazing. I found a damn good one for excel but I cant edit it on the iphone so its usless to me. Something for load planing or anything really.

  11. I also looked into it for my unit. Long wires suck! But I hit a roadblock with security. Keeping the secure coms inside the plane. Then youd need to justify only needing one on the plane for the load or who ever is in the back. If it was a whole aircrew thing it would be easier. It would be nice thought. Hell I even thought about making something that hung from the overhead to hold the cord up but figured it was easier to learn cable control...

  12. That is correct. Even with the J's its all done manually. We do use the CARP and have the HUD so they can be more accurate. We do our drops at 300ft.

There are plenty of videos online of Coast Guard c130 drops. The bags being dropped are life rafts/survial kits. 1000 feet long from bag 1 to 6.

Any other info you need I can get for you.
