  1. Yes Don I remember that infamous major, that legend in his own mind, that flatulent flyboy, that bulbous bumbler, that field grade fumbler, that ace of aero space was none other than Maj. C.R.Terror the global gastronome!! I used to love to read about that crew's misadventures way back when! Bill:)

  2. I got on the TAC C-130's in 1963 at Sewart AFB Tn. I thought it was normal when we landed that the flt. crew dissappeared and left me the crew chief, working on the acft. Hey, that was my job! Back then you were on your own when you finished. Slept on the acft. many times. TCS and TAS made no difference to the CC. When MAC took over the 130's, maint. wise it was a much better deal. It was more like an airline Air Force than in TAC where it was like an Army Air Force. I'm sure many of the folks on this board might think right the opposite. Still loved it though!!! :) Bill

  3. WOW! Dang John, sounds like there ain't nothing wrong with your memory even after getting banged in the head with half a C-130. What an outstanding replay of the accident. Thanks for all the extra info too, they fill in some blanks. It would be amazing to hear about all the uh-ohs that have happened with old Herk and her folks! Thanks again John for the "Rest of the story". :) Bill

  4. Saw the dead battery thing at Dobbins 10-15 years ago as a crewchief we were waiting for the LM to finish his form F and his calculator died on him. He had the deer in the headlights look till the FE offered him his calculator to finish up with. I thought it was funny because in the mid 70's as a 141 FE at Charleston we would be written up if we were caught with one of those new fangled gadgets and using it to figure our TOLD cards...we had to use the old tried and proven slide rule. My how times have changed. Ha Ha, still have my first illegal pocket calc. that I bought in Japan in 1975! Bill :)

  5. While my mind is on the old style air drop systems...Is there anyone on this board that remembers this accident at Pope AFB? It was late 1968 or early 69 that a new airdrop/rigging system with cables and pullys attached to FS 245 and running aft was being tested. It was the wing commanders aircraft and was assigned to the 777Th TAS as I remember. I saw the setup since it was parked next to my bird prior to launch. The acft. RTB shortly after T.O. with firetrucks screaming and it taxied back to the spot. After all the brass had their look I was allowed on the acft. and cables and parts of 245 were everywhere inside the acft. As far as I know that was the only test of this system. Any comments or knowledge of this accident? I don't remember if the loadmaster was hurt or not. Sam Macgown weren't you at Pope about that time also? Bill

  6. Now that we have the PLADS thing figured out here is another one for the newbies...GPES, Ground Proximity Extraction System. Anybody here use it ,where and when. And the last question, where was the microphone attached? Love these old brain teasers. Bill

  7. Anybody out there remember the PLADS system (Parachute Low Altitude Delivery System) for C-130's? Anybody fly any missions using it or was involved in testing it? Oh yea and the scuttlebutt about using it to get troops out the back end in a capsule and they used live bears for the tests. Bill

  8. Later H-2's starting at Lockheed s/n 4992 (delivered about 1985) you got the 2 large side escape hatches, lost the HF long line ant, it went into the vert stab LE, got the dual INS and 2 main batteries along with the flush toilet. I installed and rigged the first set of large hatches on this bird as it came down final assy. Bill
