  1. rats!!!! that\'s the worse news I heard all day...I was happy when I went from E\'s to J\'s...I didn\'t have to worry about the one year assignment training the Iraqi loads...now this news, maybe they can wait 6 more years :(

  2. yes the pictures have been all over the news and I am sure that many folks have seen the ones that the army guy sent out immediately following the landing. I am presently at the deployed location where the crew and aircraft were stationed. I can tell you that since the first minute this incident happened we were directed not to say a word, the reason being to protect the \"integrity of the mishap investigation.\" That is why the only pics that are really for distribution at the present should be the ones on the AF website that have been cleared by PA. The crew did an outstanding job regardless. The news will officially come out in time so just have some patience.

  3. I am glad that my original post brought up some good discussion about the HTTB. However, my original question was that of the aircraft parked next to the HTTB.....it has a N# registration and it looks like it has the HF antenna just like the current day J model....the original picture is from 1985 and I was wondering if this was actually in the works in the mid 80s. Thanks

  4. I was looking at some pics today on the web and came across some of the test bed bird that was at Dobbins in the 80s--N130X--in one of the pictures there is a C-130 parked next to it and it seems to have the HF antenna that is presently on the J models. My eyes may be deceiving me but I didn\'t think that this was something that was around in 1985. Just curious. Oh and lastly I did not take the picture, the good man\'s name is posted on the bottom left.

  5. Greetings...I remember at Pope when we recieved Patches a few years ago from Idaho and hearing the Vietnam story for the first time....quite an amazing one, the first story I read talked about the bulldozer where as the most recent one had no mention of it...also the name Patches came from the aircraft\'s inability to keep any paint on her, no sure if this was also the case in Idaho or just her unhappiness to be at Pope

looking at the next post here I guess the reason for the name probably more to do with repaired damage from Khe Sahn and not the paint.

  6. unfast1, what exactly is your background prior to 130s, I only ask because I am curious to see if folks are really getting sent to Herks from other airframes when I know many folks who want 17s...I understand you wanting to get to Hulrburt, many of my friends are down there and they love the flying/mission...it sucks that you are just getting to Dyess...you are most likely going to have to fulfill your time on station requirements there before they would entertain any assignments. Also you may enjoy where you are and after some time hear from folks at other bases that may spark your interest as well. Good luck and fly safe.

  7. greetings and meery christmas to all....before I left Pope in Octber we had many folks heading to AFSOC...I am sure a lot of it had to do with us drawing down folks due to BRAC....AFSOC slots were really never advertised on AMS with the exception of the 6th SOS...my suggestion would be to talk to your Chief or Super, depending on your Sq manning and your experience they may be able to make a call for you to your functional at AFPC....now I am no way in AFSOC so this suggestion is from what I saw at Pope over the last few months before I left....good luck
