  1. I wasn't sure how to respond to this when you first posted. It could've gone either way...

That place has a TON of potential. That new roof is a great start. Unfortunately, as you well know it'll cost a TON to fix it up. That should be a very interesting project.

I am envious of the smoke house though...

  2. I know there is (or was 7 years ago) a souvineer shop. I think it's on Walker Street, which is off Rt.280 - S. Cobb Drive. I got that from looking at Google. It's bizarre- people navigate by references to the Big Chicken. It's south of the Big Chicken if I remember correctly.

BTW- Go to the big chicken, take a right and about a mile down on the left is Williamson Brothers BBQ. Great stop.

  3. From airforce-magazine.com March 17, 2010

More Than Enough C-130s: Mobility Capabilities and Requirements Study 2016, the Pentagon's in-depth look at its transport future needs, shows that the US military currently has more C-130 transports than it requires. The existing inventory stands at 401 tails, a number that exceeds the highest projected demand for 335 of them in the most stressing warfighting scenarios, according to the document's unclassified executive summary. This peak demand would occur during surge airland/airdrop operations, it states. At the same time, MCRS-16 notes that "the C-130 crew force structure cannot sustain steady-state operations in combination with a long-duration irregular warfare campaign," based on current Total Force planning objectives. Many of the C-130s in the Air Force's inventory are old and the service is retiring some of them while upgrading others and bringing on new C-130J airframes. (See Not Enough Tankers above) (For more on MCRS-16, see Overcapacity.) (MCRS 2016 executive summary)

We heard this in something like 1992. That's how the H3 production ended and the J-model started.

  4. Perhaps it's a show about flying DeHavilland Beavers and such in Alaska. If that's the case, the name of Producer Thom Beers (Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, etc.) comes to mind. Perhaps a Discovery Channel program with Mike Rowe narrating. If so, I'm intrigued.

Of course, I'd also be intrigued if it was one (or more) of the countless IL-76 crews out there that live on their ride.

  5. I pretty much flew the same tails for both Initial/Mission Quals and Instructor school. 7897 (Initial) and 1787 (Instructor) were two that I flew quite frequently. It sucks that they don't tell you this stuff (maybe it's for the best) before you go flying on them.
