I believe it is a setting on the forum, not our browsers...
When I was using both firefox and the older version of IE6, I had the problem...

I upgraded to the newer IE7(spit) and no more problems with this forum...

Much of the fleet needs CWB\'s but the Js? Already! What is the hold up on the CWB replacement? Only done by Lockheed? I thought Boeing had a CWB repair they were doing for the Brits.
SPAR Aerospace also does the CWB replacements (I believe they are owned by L3)

I know we had a problem on 1855 on landing when the crew would take the engines to reverse the left wing would dip down and try to take the acft to the left. We did alot of work on that problem.
Was it 1855 or 7898 that we had to have cameras installed in the nose wheel well and the blue ribbon team ripped her apart and found nothing? I forget the tail number but I remember changing about 15 sets of nose wheels and barrings out for weeks on end with it... I honestly do not remember the solution...if the crews just ended up living with it or if it was finally fixed.

1855 was a great plane. 7898 spent more time in the air on jacks then she did flying.
It was 1855 that had that nose gear problem that we could not figure out right? Cameras in the wheel well and the blue ribbon team came up inconclusive right...or did they find a problem? That was about the time I was cross training.
  5. Was the rumor true about the J model that took off from Keesler, lost an engine and the \"brain\" pulled back power on the symmetrical so to not induce excessive yaw, the plane narowely missed a building? Heard this many times but did not know if it was one of the many \"hate the J\" stories or if it was in fact true.

That is the airplane that had the cockpit fire at Dyess in 1974.

Bruce Ferrier was the wing king, he had been 37 TAS Commander. He got fired.

They rebuilt it and it became a Senior Hunter spook aircraft at Harrisburg PA. Some kind of electronic spooks, maybe that is why it seems to have a phony tank and whatever that gadget is.

After PA ANG got their J\'s it went to the PRANG to haul trash and was last known to be at Hurlburt hauling trash.

    Bob

So this airplane is now stationed at Hurlburt? Still carrying the PR tail code?

FLIR is being used generically - turreted infrared sensor, infrared detection set, etc. All are same thing, just that they can look anywhere - not just forward. ;)
Yes, I was not using FLIR to mean just forward... I used that term because most of the people have used and heard that particular term for many years.
  8. The letter in front of the Basic Mission Designation of C is the Modified mission designation of M

    M stands for Multimission

    other examples

    A - Ground Attack [1962-today]

    C - Transport [1962-today]

    D - Drone Director [1962-today]

    E - Special Electronic Mission [1962-today]

    F - Fighter [1978/86-today]

    H - Search and Rescue, Medevac [1962-today]

    K - Tanker [1962-today]

L - Equipped for Cold Weather Operations [1962-today]

    M - Missile Carrier [1962-1971/73] (see note 1)

    M - Mine Countermeasures [1972/74-1976] (see note 1)

    M - Multimission [1977-today]

    O - Observation [1972/74-today]

    P - Maritime Patrol [1972/74-today]

    Q - Unmanned Drone [1962-today]

    R - Reconnaissance [1962-today]

    S - Antisubmarine Warfare [1962-today]

    T - Trainer [1962-today]

    U - Utility [1962-today]

    V - Staff Transport [1962-today] (see note 2)

    W - Weather Reconnaissance [1962-today]

Its official mission is Infiltration, exfiltration and resupply of special operations forces.

But the M is really a catch all...

  9. The VA has been very good to me (A rarity?) The only thing they have not fixed were my teeth...and honestly, I am not sure I want them to touch them.

Everything else I have had work done to has been top notch!

According to the NDAA as passed by Congress:

\"SEC. 141. LIMITATION ON RETIREMENT OF C-130E/H TACTICAL AIRLIFT AIRCRAFT.

    (a) Limitation- The Secretary of the Air Force may not retire C-130E/H tactical airlift aircraft during fiscal year 2008.

    (B) Maintenance of Certain Retired Aircraft- The Secretary of the Air Force shall maintain each C-130E/H tactical airlift aircraft retired during fiscal year 2007 in a condition that will permit recall of such aircraft to future service.\"

If I understand this correctly perhaps there is some hope for rewing/repair of these old birds.

    looks to be the case
