    1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men\'s work boots,

    used, size 14-16. $2.00

    2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns &

    Ammo Magazine. Magazine - $3.00

    3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazine. $5.00

    4. Leave a note on your door that reads:

Hey Bubba, Big Jim, Duke and Slim: I went for more shotgun shells and

to pick my check up from the slaughterhouse. I should be back in

an hour. Don\'t mess with the Pit Bulls--don\'t know what got into

them, but they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him

up real bad. I don\'t think Killer took part in it but it was hard

to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of

\'em in the house. Better wait out here on the porch.

  2. Sounds to me like the FE was the smart one. Have a saying up here in AK: if 2 guys are out in the woods and you happen to come across a grizzlie, you don\'t have to run fast, just faster than the other guy....

  3. When I went through Red Flag in \'83 were had a forum discussion on something. During the conversation we discussed the scenario of a flight of Hercs flying to Europe during a conflict in Europe, and the feasibility of protecting the formation. One suggestion was arming a few Hercs with missiles, Sidewinders, etc., and have them flying as part of the formation. The theory was that by them hiding with the formation that they could lock on and launch their missiles against any attacking aircraft. Guess it never caught on.

  4. Seems to me, from many moons ago, that the inverters were put in the -1 position was for self-contained starts. If you\'ve ever done a self contained start and had to turn the ATM off because of low bleed air pressure then you\'ll understand why the you need the -1 position. Would suck to be in -- and loosing the ATM power - no engine instruments for the rest of the start on the first engine. You may not always have a power cart to start with, and the -1 position just standardized the start procedure.

  5. Just noticed while looking at the pics again, that the 2 engines on each wing rotate opposite each other. Or so it seems from looking at the props. I\'m sure that there\'s a reason for it, but not sure what it could be.

  6. The \"1st\" TDY, a Herc TDY, was right after finishing Phase II at the Rock, and I mean right after like in the 1st flight. I was in the 32nd and was tasked with taking a plane down for depot and the radar scope burnt-up. We were ready to descend into WRB so smoke & fumes elimination, etc., etc. Some \"cherry\" ride.

I think that my 1st actual USAF TDY was out of WPAFB where I was crewing then FM on JC-131Bs. Went to Dyess for Caribou school prior to leaving for SEA. Hell of an indoctrination into TDYs for a young 19 year old. I think I was in class everyday but can\'t remember! :woohoo:

  7. A number of years ago, mid 80\'s, we were on decent into an airport on the Alaska panhandle, can\'t remember which one. Anyway, just prior to going into the cloud cover the OFF flag for both ADI\'s popped out. AC immediately pulled nose up, I switched to the inverter, then looked at a bus off light. Headed back to EDF. Old memory can\'t recall much more than that.

  8. Hmmm.... Four crewmembers armed and none are the drivers. B)

Could a hell of a trip if all 6 got to \"that time of the month\" at the same time. Good thing that it wasn\'t a gunship, cause watch out on the ground....

Another aviation term gone awry. Gives a whole new meaning to the term cockpit. :silly:
