SEFEGeorge
Came across a couple pics I took while in the 17th TAS. Approach and departure ends... Over the ridge and rapid descent to land, missing a ditch at the approach end. Supposidly if you lose an engine on take-off you can use the valleys as an escape route. Shadow
Isn't this the approach that claimed the life of Captain "Mad Dog" Roulston in 1978? I had flown with him in 1976 at Little Rock. Yes it was Bob Edited May 17, 2011 by bobdaley
SEFEGeorge
Not sure. That was before my time there. I seem to recall that it was 78-79 time frame and it was on takeoff. But way too many years ago for me to remember.
DC10FE
As I remember, the nav was a young new guy from Dyess. I flew with him on a Mildenhall rote. Can't remember his name. I'm sure it's on Bob D's list of Herc casualties. Don R.
SEFEGeorge
Isn't this the approach that claimed the life of Captain "Mad Dog" Roulston in 1978? I had flown with him in 1976 at Little Rock. Based on the many times that I flew into that place, I wasn't nervous about the approach, it was that takeoff. The approach you just flew over "pussy-ridge" and then dove down and made an assault landing on the end on the strip, then applied power to taxi uphill to parking. For takeoff, if you lost an engine, it was said that you could meander the valleys left or right of PR until enough airspeed to climb, but........
