  1. Gizzard - what was Julius last name? I worked ECS at Langley 68-69, assigned to 36th. Of my three career fields ECS was my favorite, lots of TDYs.

Naw, Julius was his nickname.............His real name was Larry Seeders............and he was with the 36th in 69, best I recall....Great tall guy with glasses..................

  2. In the old days Bob I had to go get the coffee and than serve it inflight, but in all fainess I guess the eng. served more than I did . also now days wifes doint listen as well as they did than.

I want to see THAT........................A wife that LISTENS?!?!

  3. A very good friend of mine worked ECS at Langley, later went to Guard at Martinsburg, and then to Glenn L. Martin, all on 130's. Then somehow, he decided to come over to the dark side and became a fire department chief at a guard base in Ohio. I think he liked the work, and the chances to go just about anywhere the herks went.............Sadly he passed away in "98 three months shy of his 48th birthday......Some of you old Langley guys may remember him as " Julius", all six foot four inches of him

  4. It was my honor and privilege to have met the three (of four) surviving members of the raiders when they attended their last reunion at Eglin Air Force Base. While each member is in his 90's, each had very young eyes. Remarkable men still. American treasures always

Lucky pup, you........ That would have been really an honor....

  5. Well Giz, I can't take the 5th, I been facing the same situation for over 40 years, course around here I have a reprobate

named Arne, and a get a few phone calls from an old Engineer named B. Bottoms course to be an enlisted crew member,

on a C-130 or just about any other aircraft, one of the first requirements was to be some what of a reprobate!!

If you weren't one before, you would become one real quick!!!!!!!!!!! There WAS an image to maintain, you understand....I cannot imagine how it would have been had we had female crew members back in the day!!!!!!!!!

  6. Giz

I was at CCK in 72 and remember the relief efforts. If I remember correctly, Luzon got a months worth of rain in 3-4 days, resulting in the massive flooding.

yep, that be the one. We were at CCK and I don't know what all was in our load, five pallets worth if I remember. It was more like the island sank than rain came down.........

  7. Today will be the last reunion of the remaining members of Doolittle's B-25 Raiders. There are only four left, and only three can now travel. so they have decided this is their last. Those of you who have been to the USAF Museum at Wright-Pat may remember the goblets and bottle of 1896 Cognac. They will open it today, even though it was supposed to be a "Last Man Standing" thing. So another American aviation story comes to a close. Four out of eighty.........

    Thank you all...........

  8. Anybody remember the monsoons that hit the PI the end of July, ( I think), '72????? Hauled relief supplies in, maybe to Clark, but for some reason my feeble mid says somewhere else,,,where we parked to off-load, the water was almost to the forst step of the crew entrance door. I know I was wet to my knees.........The 36th, maybe others as well, got a Phillipine Presidential Unit Citation for the effort. I kept lookin' for the big boat with all the animals!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Giz

If she lost 200 pounds save a tree for Mercy. I'll send the Big Heifer up there right away.

    Bob

Send her up, maybe we can get a fat farm goin'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Got to admit some days I feel older than others but never over 40... Hello guys. Giz, I'm glad Elissa is pullin her weight by using that log splitter she bought. I imagine it is hard for you just sittin on the porch watchin her. Chris, the window sticker looks good. Welcome home brother. Gerry, all the mirrors in my house are broken. None of them reflect my image properly

Keith, she has really lost weight workin' on that wood pile!!!!!!!!!! She is down to nearly 200, already!!!!

  11. Hey Giz, it looks like we made the news!!!

    Ken (Mt.crewchief)

Yeah, I reckon so. Gotta hide that camera of his!!!!!!!!!!!! We might get caught!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Hey Tinwhistle put a name to each pic. I don't know those "old guys" just the young "Bucks" we used to be, ha ha :) Bill

OLD?????????????? Naw!!!!!!!! I defer to a statement JMitch made at the first 316th reunion, and I think it is very true...." Nobody showed up but old guys!!!!!!!!!! But if you look into their eyes, the young guys are still there!!!!"""

  13. I love that wood pile make home sick for Ky. We burn wood all my time at home.

I have about that much more on the back porch and even more over on the right in the picture that you can't see. reckon I have nearly seven cords all told. Had two big hickory trees blow down last spring, unbelievably, and and am splittin' those big brutes up. For you city folks, green hickory smells like a wet horse when you split it. also had a 80 foot white oak hit by lightning two years ago, killed it, and had taken down as well. Thing has 126 rings in the base. I got my wife a nice log splitter and she is slowly gettin' them split up.. LOL!!!!!!!

  14. Been there, done that! Seems kinda contradictory that someone who could be, at times, rather coarse and brash, profane and obscene, ill-tempered and lacking tolerance for others, could do such a thing, or feel sadness and a sense of loss when a call just doesn't work out for an adult, even though you gave your best, or feel like your heart has been ripped out when you have to deal with a badly injured child, don't it??? But that's what we do..........why is anybody's guess!!

  15. Ain't necessarily a stereotype......several years ago, I had a neighbor who's son was datin' an exquisite blonde,,,,,incredibly beautiful but dumb as a box of rocks. One evening, somehow the conversation got around to sun rises and such, and my neighbor said she liked bein' at Myrtle Beach because the condo they alwasy rented faced to the east and she loved to watch the sun rise. The blonde says " You mean people in California never get to see the sun come up?"""

  16. Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is criminal that situations like this have to be endured. Problem is nobody is held responsible for this ineptitude. But at least Ben has gotten his well-earned benefits. Welcome home, brother.

    Giz

  17. Can't be six years already!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Casey, not only have you set up a forum to exchange stories, information and assistance on the Old Girl, it has been a very fertile ground to renew old acquaintances, recall old memories, and develop great new friendships.

    on downwind, turnin' on final
