  1. At Langley the two FEs that worked the sim. were friends, yes, I did have one or two FE friends. On the weekends I would show and we would fly... sometimes all day. Damm, eventually I got pretty good. Could grease that baby in with the best of them. Later I became friends with the guy running the T-39 sim. Easy airplane to fly. Had to be careful on rollout as the acft. lacked anti-skid brakes.

    In the 37th we had an AC, Lt Col Reed Mulkey. This guy was a superb officer, on the ground and in the air. His position was that everyone on the crew should be able to fly the bird. Someone posted some time ago that his FEs flying/landing ability was better than most CPs. When scheduled for cross country I was always happy when it was Mulkey and crew getting off the crew bus. I knew it was going to be a good trip and I would probably get some seat time.

  2. Larry - you're correct about the fuel, I remember this for a fact. Really seems like I should remember you from Langley - but it has been a long time.

    james, When you were assigned to the 36th I was in the 37th. And during almost all of 69 I was in RVN. So I think it's unlikely we crossed paths.

    I notice by your avatar you served in the 06th. I to was in the 06th but rotated a couple of years before you arrived. Good and bad experiences in that outfit. Good....drinking lots of German beer. Bad....overbearing security.

    Bob, It's been a very long time (1969) but I'm reasonably sure his name was Paul Meyer. In the 36th I knew him well. Was a good worker but off duty, a hard hard drinker. I've met people since who though he was me. At the time I was stationed at Phu Cat. Had I still been at Langley would probably have been on that rote.

    There are people who know but they aren't taking. And am sure many other people have asked to no avail. Must have been an iron clad nondisclosure statement.;) One of the best kept secrets in the AF. In the many years since I've never met anyone who was then in a position to know, willing to divulge what really happened. I'm with Sam in that Meyer simply lost control of a large heavy acft in which he was not qualified. Sgts don't log a lot of Herk time.

    Posted earlier was a comment concerning lack of fuel. My understanding is Meyer put a max fuel load on the acft. prior to departure.

    Am assuming when you write you've had no luck through the usual sources, you're referring to the unit TODO? Procuring TOs is part of what they do. What's their excuse?

    Looking at the title it appears it may be a depot level TO. Could your problem be your at the intermediate level requesting a depot level TO?

    I know this post isn't much help but if you have a need for a TO, the system should work as advertised and provide it to you. And if it doesn't work, which in this case, it seems it isn't, make noise up the chain.

  5. Scott, you are the man. I'm sure when you raised the subject the troops were thinking, what the hell is the Chief talking about.

    And today, thanks to you and tiny, I learned something I never knew. Perhaps, in my day, although I was a by the book troop I didn't pay as much attention to tech data as I thought I did. As I think back perhaps when I came to the unit they were loading a pallet and it worked so well no one, including me, thought to check tech data.

    I see your assigned to the 1st SOW so if your talking about a gunship or talon it's pretty tough to place a pallet in the number one position.

    Now the real question is, can a stand be found.

As Tiny posted earlier, when we had an acft. down for maintenance and the cg was such there was concern with it tipping onto the tail skid we would load a pallet (don't remember how much weight) in the number one position. Probably not what the tech data specifies in such a situation but it worked.

  7. I'm guessing this piece is only on later acft. (post 64s) as I don't remember ever seeing it or using it.

    Seems to me if it were an aft fuselage support point it would have a corresponding support on the opposite side or instead be mounted on the centerline.

    Discerning people want to know. lol

  8. Now that Jim is the ultimate example of good old loady stuff. And you don't have to worry about loosing it. As has happened with most of my good old crew chief stuff. That is good looking ink. Assuming you were sober, remember where you got it?

  9. While engine starting under fllor heating fan should OFF when switching generator one to other failure to comply GCP will damage Why ?

    munisrabbasi, Couple of days ago in the Tips and Tricks Forum you posted the same query. You had a response that, in part, answered your question.

  10. Attempting to start the first engine using the GTC with air conditioning or underfloor heat on will most likely result in a slow, bogged, hot start. The GTC's compressed air output is insufficient to simultaneously power the engine starter and other pneumatic subsystems. Watch what the bleed air system pressure gage does at starter engagement.

    Can't speak to your GCP issue, but question why anyone would be switching generators on engine start.

  12. Holy crap, wish I had known this a couple of years ago when I made a contribution the Wounded Warriors.

    Had a son hurt in Iraq. At some point during his hospital stay in Qatar he acquired a Wounded Warrior jacket which he sent me. His emails indicated this was a good outfit. Seems we were both fooled.

    This organization is currently conducting a series of tv advertisements that will make your eyes moisten.

    Am curious what the ceo's compensation is. Betting he doesn't qualify for food stamps.

    Hi Giz, Sorry it took so long to respond. It has to do with, as you wrote, befuddlement. lol

    I'm guessing you're correct. However, I didn't spend much if any time on aircraft other than my own, so I really can't say. Somewhat off subject, my favorite place to rest inflight was a hammock hung above the ramp and door.

    When accompanying my aircraft cross country I tried to get as much sleep as possible while inflight. The reason being I never knew how long it would take to get the aircraft ready for next morning's departure. Sometimes', if the aircraft was in good shape I'd be in the Q in a couple of hours. Other times would still be there when you and the FE would show for the -1PR. Took more than one shower in the flight line fire station.

    Those were the good old days.
