  1. From the MX world I love the 241 over the 59, its a lot more user friendly. From the Operator world, its an awesome system. The ability to have have up to three modes running at once is great. Northrup made an awesome system. All we need is a Link 16 system like the 15s and the Js would be awesome. The MC J will be a beast of an aircraft.
  2. Well, Ive been working an issue with RADAR for about a month, and it seems that the APN 241 is extremly sensitive to ESD. We all know that electronics are ESD sensitive but with the 241, if the RADOME is just a bit out of Bonding (grounding, lockheed came up with a special word lol) it was send RADAR Degraded ACAWS messages to the crew. YOU CAN NOT duplicate this on the ground. Talk about kicking my ass for a month. Every day I work a J I see something new. Some times I miss the Legacy airframes that I worked F-15s and KC-135s...it was a lot more aircraft and a whole lot less computer. just wanted to give a shout out to everyone, because one day we will all have J models lol. plus the Hs have 241 if I remember correctly. Everyone Have a wonderful weekend.
  3. Hmmm no more cords to deal with...wow that would be awesome especially on the EC birds... We were talking about it last year, and AFSOC actually is pretty close to closing the deal...rumors as of last year... and in rumors there is truth. this would help greatly with different programs... keeping it secure actually might not be that hard with all the different encryption tech out there, we just need to not go to the cheapest bidder for once...and all the loadmasters, FEs, and flying MX people will have no more comm cords to worry about.
  4. hey man, I talked to my IFCS shop and it seems they all think it may be a mission computer bug. Try reloading the software and let me know...they have other ideas too.
  5. got it to repeat multiple times with the same PMA, once we changed PMAs worked fine. the 241 does have an internal bit but it is not as in depth as when you run the PMA based bit. Yea I saw the new PMA about a month a go...seems well be getting it here soon...actually excited about it. New GUI new software. Very User friendly. I beleve it to make the transition to 7.0 in the next year or so nice...especially with the CMNV database uploads.
  6. Im a comm/nav guy on Js and I have seen simular things with our planes, just different systems. We had something simular just happen with a Radar and it ended up being a bad PMA. This past summer we had a cursor control and grip do the exact same thing, i could not get the fault to clear. I exercised the system for about 30 mins and got the ACAWS message to clear. Its been months and I have not seen the fault come back on the aircraft. Another thing I have noticed is the friggin climate and these aircraft do not get along. Too cold and every system decides to glitch out. If its really cold where you are (under 40) take a heat cart and blast the heat on the autopilot computers in the hell hole, as silly as it sounds seems to work. Same idea if its above 85 just use A/C. One last idea, and im not sure if you have done this but check the connectors on the bottom of the throttle quadrant, i know they are a pain in the ass to put on and maybe one isnt just tight enough and youre getting a fault because well the J is touchy about things. With these flying computers I have noticed the good ol saying "Pure F'in Magic" works too. if you have anymore questions PM me and I will talk with our IFCS guru and Lockheed guys and see what they have for ya
  7. Sorry guys I speak in acronyms every now and then, comes with the job i guess. Anyway, that is exactly what the PMA is... essentially a broken computer that doesn really no good...other than to load software. But for those who do work the Js we will be seeing the PMA go away for a microsoft system...so who is ready for this write up: 30 mins into flight, had blue screen of dead on all MFDs Hooray for microsoft.
  8. Well guys I am new to this website, but i have been a comm nave troop for 8 years and have worked Es and now Js and want to give you a heads up on a problem we have recently (yesterday) discovered. The J model PMA can give false bit test results. It seems possible to show a failure when the LRU/System is completely fine. We chased our tails for a week until we accidently got another PMA and it worked. With APN-241 RTPs being as rare as they are this is one of those things I thought would be helpful to all.
