  1. All of the USAF hydraulic and general maintenance books that I have don't mention anything about the installation, even the A-model hydraulics book. If you contact Lockheed Martin, they would probably have to look at some archived materials. I kind of doubt that anyone working there would even know, since this is an early 50's design. IMost of the engineers that worked on the design would probably be retired from life by now. But if you do find something, please post it.

  2. That leads me to a story. When I got to Norton AFB in 1981, a lot of the guys were telling me that the cleared-covered splices sucked. I hadn't even seen them at Rhein Main, we only had pink & blue for avionics work. I started checking out the problem, small wires easily broke loose of the crimp. I decided to go into the T.O., yeah, imagine that, and found that the clear splice required a different crimp die than was used for pink and blue splices.

  3. There really is no info on it that I can find. Given it is just a spring loaded flapper that opens into the dry bay from the rear beam, I would think it is some sort of atmospheric pressure relief system, but I can't find anything on it. It is visible from the flap area, correct?

  4. Never got to work on that system in all my years on the C-130. Are the ADIs and other NAV signals stable when this is happening? Sometimes it's hard to see when the pilots are worrying about the movement of the aircraft.

    I would go in and check all the terminal board connections, even going so far as to loosening and tightening. Don't forget TB101 at FS 617.

  5. I think this was a TCTO to be done during depot maintenance. I have been retired for 3 1/2 years so I am not exactly sure of the status. I don't know if it is being done at overseas depot locations or on any foreign military service aircraft, since the USAF is paying for it. They will be replaced only one time, this is not part of any scheduled depot work.
