  1. From Lars' book:

Crashed dropping Sheridan tank at Ft Bragg. Load hung up, parachute deployed.

I thought this was the one that came down too fast. I think this was it.

This was PILOT ERROR -- long story on this one

  2. White jet tour?? How could you evaluate the MC-130J (a SOF acft) if you don't fully understand the SOF mission - all manner of air drops, helo A/R, infil/exfil, et al?

Jeffysan -- you know damn well that is the process -- don't put anyone in charge that has a clue to what the mission is -- only someone that can move up the ranks.

  3. This is from the Tampa Tribune of about 10 days ago. The results of the trial here in Tampa of someone impersonating a highly decorated Marine. The last paragraph is especially interesting.

    Don R.

Bet that judge never served a day in his life!

  4. that picture was taken just before the skyanchor failed on a 1,500 lb pick up -- sounded like a shot gun went off in the cockpit -- or politicaly correct flight deck -- then again I haven't been know to be politicaly correct! :)

  5. Ive heard of BIG MAC, but Ive never heard the term little MAC or Black MAC before. I do remember having a mini MAC patch beneath my regular MAC patch though. I came to my first MAC unit in 82, so I didnt know anything about anything, (green fng). Years later though I was well aware of the prima donnas that flew on the 141s and C5s.

Big MAC was the C-5's and C-141's, Little MAC = Herks, BLACK MAC = SOF Talons (the Talons were still painted black back then)

  6. They just opened up http://aviationhumor.net/ yesterday. Some pretty funny stuff. Here's one ya'll might like.

While taxiing out in sequence behind a Lufthansa airliner at Frankfurt, a C-130 crew noticed an orange “Remove before flight” streamer hanging out of the Lufthansa nose wheel well (their nose gear locking pin was still installed). Not wanting to cause too much embarrassment by going thru the controller, the 130 crew simply called the Lufthansa aircraft on the tower frequency: “Lufthansa aircraft, Herky 23.” No reply.

They repeated the transmission and again there was no reply. Instead, the Lufthansa pilot called the tower and asked the tower to tell the Herky crew that “the professional pilots of Lufthansa do not engage in unprofessional conversations over the radio.”

The 130 pilot quickly replied, “Frankfurt tower, can you please relay to the professional pilots of the Lufthansa aircraft that their nose gear pin is still installed?”

it's true it's true I know who did it -- except we asked ground to have them come up 123.45 and the comment was "we professional pilots do not talk on unauthorized freq.s" so he got the response above on ground freq. :)

Sounds to me like some of his Aids made statements that did the boss in -- then again he is the boss and takes responsibility for his subordinates -- allowing the media access like this will continue to have dire consequences -- I wonder what would have happened if the same access was granted to General Eisenhower's staff in WWII during the planning of Operation Overlord?

  8. I remember a static SOF demo we did at Scott. The MH-53 guys would have gals rub the probe and then extend it :) and I got into trouble for telling the CINC's son the fending lines were to keep the wings from coming off when we fired the rockets and went supersonic!

  9. I would love to see the Talon flying beyond 2015--but I am truly looking forward to the Combat Talon III. As capable as the Combat Talon is, it will be interesting to see what forty years of combat experience mixed with innovation can come up with.

Hopefully the HQ pukes will stay out of the crewstation working groups way -- Talon II would have been all glass if we would have had our way and "they" won't be stuck with haveing detents but a variable selection down to 100 of 50 ft.

I remember a discussion on some ECM they were building racks for that was already outdated -- the EWO (now a General) came to me and I went to the SPO and was told. I can save "X" many $$$ today putting that system on "you" can pay later for the upgrade! But it made him look good at the time. And MAC bought it!!

And that's just one of the stories!!!

  10. This is one of my favorite movies and as I was watching it again the other night I wondered if they still used it in any of the NCO Leadership or Academy courses? I know they were using it when I was still in but perhaps it's too "dated" for use now.

It was used when I attended SOS in 74
