  1. Last night prior to starting, my FE noticed that the #3 LSGI buttom had a light bulb in it and when jiggled, the button would light up. Anyone know why the LSGI buttons were lit? Nothing in the Dash 1 explains this.

    the bulbs were taken out because all they did was burn ya and if you couldn't tell you were in LSGI w/o out a light you were in deep trouble

  2. Casey's sketch accurately shows the buffer boards and the ramp actuator struts. The "dogbone" struts cannot be seen with the buffer boards installed, but the ramp actuator struts are outside of the buffer boards.

    I have pictures to verify, but not digital. If it is a real issue, let me know, and I'll scan one or two.....

  3. Thanks guys, that's close enough for my information. I was just curious. I've been on some long flights, but nothing that came close to using up a full fuel load. 8-9 hours was plenty.

    Tiny try HRT to Jordan non-stop -- 3 AR's with a low level at the end with an airdrop over the field (not to be named) to protect the inocent LOL 26+ hrs.

  4. That freaking ladder was a joke almost killed myself on it!!! Its amazing some of the stupid SH$#%^&*(*t we used to do!!!

    I climbed up on it once somewhere I can't remember but the wind was blowing like crazy -- damn almost as good as a roller coaster ride! But never been scared on a roller coaster.

  6. Kuwait requests possible purchase of KC-130s

    On July 15, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of a possible foreign military sale to the Government of Kuwait of eight KC-130J Multimission Cargo Refueling Aircraft and associated equipment, parts and support for an estimated cost of $1.8 billion.

    The Government of Kuwait has requested a possible sale of 8 KC-130J Multi-mission Cargo Refueling Aircraft with 32 AE-2100D3 Turbo propeller engines, 8 spare AE-2100D3 Turbo propeller engines, 4 AN/ALR-56M Radar Warning Receivers, 4 AN/AAR-47 Missile Approach Warning Systems, 4 AN/ALE-47 Countermeasures Dispenser Sets, 20 AN/ARC-210 (RT-1851A(U)) Very High Frequency/Ultra High Frequency HAVEQUICK/Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio Systems, spare and repair parts, support equipment, publications and technical documentation, warranties, aircraft ferry support, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor technical and logistics personnel services and other related elements of program support.

    This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country which has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.

    The government of Kuwait needs these aircraft to strengthen its tactical and operating capabilities with its defense network. The aircraft will provide enhanced airlift capability, and with the refueling capability, add significant operational flexibility by extending the range of Kuwait’s air defense aircraft. The proposed sale of these aircraft will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

    The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Marietta, Ga. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Kuwait.

  7. Joint 7th ACS & SGI 2009 Reunion Put it on your calander now!

    7 ACS and SGI Combined Reunion

    OK "Commandos," we have combined forces with the Stray Goose Int'l (SGI)(1 SOS) guys to have a reunion in conjunction with the Air Commando Association (ACA) Reunion 9-11 Oct 2009. We are also planning for the next Worldwide Combat Talon (WWCT) Reunion from 21-23 May 2010.

    Below is the infomation for the 2009 Get together.

    October 9, 10, 11, 2009 - Hurlburt Field

    Make plans now to attend the Stray Goose International/7th Air Commando Society/SOS fall reunion, to be held 9-11 October 2009 at the Hurlburt Field picnic grounds. Once again, this year's event coincides with the Air Commando Association reunion, which is held annually over the Columbus Day holiday weekend.

    When you find something that works...stay with it. The schedule of events is the same as past SGI reunions: cookout and business meetings (as required) on Friday night, pig roast and picnic on Saturday afternoon/evening, and a memorial service with the ACA on Sunday at the Hurlburt air park. Except for the memorial service, all events will be held at the picnic grounds south of Hwy 98 on the sound side.

    In true Combat Talon fashion, we will have a good time. More details are forthcoming, but here's what we know now:

    --Friday, 9 October, 1400 --Begin site and country store set up at the picnic

    grounds

    --Friday, 9 October, 1600 - ??? - Cookout and kegs, chicken BBQ dinner served at 1800, and separate business meetings as necessary

    --Saturday, 10 October, all day - Hospitality tent open for war-story

    telling and beer drinking. Hamburgers and hot dogs available all day.

    --Saturday, 10 October, 1600 - ??? - Pig roast, picnic and kegs

    --Sunday, 11 October, 1200 -- ACA Memorial service at air park

    --Sunday, 11 Oct, 1300 - ??? -- Site clean-up and keg drain

    Final costs for the Friday and Saturday events will be posted, but we're projecting $15 per person per night (Sunday free), or $25 per person for the entire weekend. Kids 12 and younger free. No pre-registration - all done on site.

    Everyone is encouraged to bring a picnic food item/dessert to share on Saturday night.

    Due to the combined events with the ACA and non-availability of the Quality Inn, our members will be on their own for transportation and lodging.

    By the way, Talon personnel from the 15th, 711th and the old 8th SOS's are welcome (and encouraged) to join us!

  8. While in the 7SOS in Germany we were checking out an FE to be a FCF/FE. Now the bird we were flying was G-2-G and did not require an FCF. When we did the inflight condition lever to ground stop procedure two of the props started to go to feather -- back to run and everything was ok. Back on the ground we wrote everything up. Now this pissed off the MAC maintenance NCOIC big time! Before I could get back to Bldg 152 our squadron. The boss had already been called by the DCM raising hell about us doing an FCF on a good aircraft. He was especially upset with the inflight ground stop procedure and demanded I return to maintenance to sign of the write up as "entered-in-error". When I got to the DCM's office I was meet by him and the NCOIC. They explained to me that it was "perfectly normal and nothing was wrong the props" and I could "legally" sign them off. I said sure show me in 0020-5 how to sign them off but then I would have to write up the other two props as bad as they didn't try to go to feather. The NCOIC turned beat red and the DCM told me to "get the f$$k out of my office". Later my CC told me that I need to try to be more diplomatic with an O6 and senior NCO.

    na don't think so -- he couldn't even answer the question "why do you want to be President?" -- FYI you forgot cheater and kicked out of school and getting daddy to get his 4 year enlistment reduced to 2 and sent to Europe (Paris) instead of Korea!

  10. GPS? It wasn't originally part of SCNS, and I don't think our crews ever got lost. A ring laser gyro INU is pretty accurate, and added to everything else, the old SCNS solution wasn't that far off.

    If GPS is so good, why do we still need the ADF?

    And do a ADF approach each year on round dials!?!? should watch some of these new kids trying it -- head falls and the tail has to go up! simple but so funny to watch

  11. Does anyone have any additional information of the T-Bird's crash in 1982? It involved 4 or 5 team members that flew their T-38's onto the desert floor near Nellis. I have always pondered as to what other info. there is.

    it was a four ship in diamond formation they didn't make it out of a loop -- lead didn't start the loop at the right speed and couldn't pull enough G's to pull out -- there is a picture of the accident site out on the net somewhere
