BobWoods
This may be a dumb question, but what are the two U shaped things behind the nose gear and at about the same F.S. as the crew door? Thanks bob woods
HerkFCC
Those are fairings for the IR Fair dispensers. I guess it\'s to give them the opportunity to get away from the fuselage upon ejection.
Herkeng130
Or it bumps the airflow around the dispensers so that the covers aren\'t constantly being ripped off.
Guest
....Or they may deflect rain water, dirt, and debris kicked up by the nose wheels in order to reduce the contamination of the live flares....I don\'t really know; just a guess. Dan Wilson
Those are actually access points for the new DATRS system (Dead Alien Transport and Recovery). Up till now the \"refueling\" pods were the desired transport device but the DoD found that supply was exceeding the available supply of MC-P\'s so they put a second system in most of the Herks and in an emergency you can transport one small size gray in each \"flare dispenser\". But don\'t tell anybody cause its Top Secret. Dan
