trev130eng
I'm currently installing an overhauled engine into a QEC but the starter i've been given to install is of a type i've never seen fitted to a -15 engine before. I forgot to get the part number but it was made by Garret and is a -1 -1 model. It has an electrical socket on the starter but no corresponding wiring on the QEC for it to connect to. Is this starter ok to use or should it be replaced? What is the electrical socket for anyway? I also need to replace the fuel tank indication tank boundary male and female connecters for #2 main and L/H aux tank. Their wiring IPC is 1978 vintage so can anybody help with part numbers? bischoffm
It is a speed switch see the attachment. Here is what it for IAW the T.O. 4.6.2 When the momentary contact switch is activated, the aircraft holding relay is energized and the circuit is completed through the starter cutout switch assembly. When the engine is operated through starter cutoff, a predetermined frequency interrupts the current to the starter switch, thus opening the aircraft circuit. The aircraft holding relay is then deenergized, and the air supply to the starter is cut off. The starter jaw disengages and the starter coasts to rest. does it need to be hooked up I wouldn't think so Edited December 10, 2009 by bischoffm
Dan Wilson
They TCTO'ed the holding circuit for the starter button many decades ago. Garret, that should be the predecessor to the air research starter if I remembers right, should be fine to use. Dan
NATOPS1
We have an "old" starter here that has the electrical plug. and I remember the OLD guys talking about the starter button "poping" and if not pull it out. It was as, Dan stated, removed many many years ago.

Yep I remember that procedure but you couldn't confirm that the starter was disengaged after pulling the button out -- so you couldn't fly and had to shut the engine down. But you could double clutch and sheer the starter shaft and stay somewhere really nice -- :)
