    Dalat

I had a picture hanging around taken by Dave Mann. It showed a damaged A model on the ground at Dalat. I just recently got a request for information about 62-1853 lost at Soc Trang in 1972. One of the crew members killed was a Major Jerry Dean Vance. There was also a picture of Major Vance standing in front of what i think is the same A Model. Major Vance was based at CCK in E\'s when He was killed but he had been at Naha in A\'s before. I have never found annything showing an A model lost at Dalat, so I guess it was repaired and flew out? Does anyone know the story of this aircraft and which aircraft it was? Thanks Bob [img size=550]http://www.herkybirds.com/images/fbfiles/images/Jerry_Duane_Vance.jpg
  2. What I heard was the four MC\'s at March would be part of it. And that 711 SOS was getting rid of all their MC\'s. Politics, money and jobs are driving the idea. No pol wants to lose a Guard unit. They don\'t have to be effective, just keep the pork flowing. We flew around for a long while with C-130B-II\'s, the 59 models. We could not carry anything because they had not removed the welded Intell structures from inside the cargo compartment. Bob
  3. The Rumor I heard was the MC-E may go to BRAC\'d ANG units as trash haulers. Bob
  4. Don Rogers helped me find a picture of where and when, now I\'d like to find the tail number. Thanks Bob [img size=496]http://herkybirds.com/images/fbfiles/images/A_at_Dalat.jpg

  6. Better qualify that, 130 engineers never show up to break them, but more than once I heard C5 Engineers say \"If it is flying I am not doing my job\". Bob
  7. One more, I got a picture of a Major Jerry Vance standing in front of a wrecked A model. Major Vance had been in A\'s at Naha and was killed in 62-1853 an E at Soc Trang in 1972. Anyone have any idea what the tail number of this A was and where was the picture taken? Thanks Bob [img size=540]http://www.herkybirds.com/images/fbfiles/images/Jerry_Duane_Vance2.jpg

    SEA

New SEA questions; Somewhere I had the name of the loadmaster on 62-1853 that was shot down at Soc Trang 12 Aug 72. He was the only crew member who survived. Does anyone remember his name? Most of the crew were from the 776 TAS. On 28 Apr 1975 during the Saigon evacuation 72-1297 was destroyed on the ramp at TSN. 72-1297 was a MAC aircraft from Little Rock, but I have seen it in 2 places that it was a 776 AS squadron aircraft. 776 was at Clark at the time so I was wondering if the crew were from 776 or if the 776 thing was a mistake. Thanks Bob

  10. Is the 4th short of people because of normal AFPC screw ups or because AFSOC wants to send them to the desert-oops beautiful waterfront Cannon? Bob
  11. Last I heard Channel Island was all J-30. Harrisburg has some non strech J\'s. Baltimore still has 8 non stretch J\'s. As I understand it all the Baltimore noon stretch J\'s will end up as trainers at LRF. Bob
  12. Lyn Can you give us any more information. what tail number is it? If it is in reasonable shape with decent documentation it could be worth something for parts. If you plan to display it, you may need some parts. There are lots of things out there, let us know in which direction you are headed. Bob
  13. Yes that\'s it Bob [img size=1200]http://herkybirds.com/images/fbfiles/images/3158J.jpg
  14. Why were the 2 H\'s grounded? Center wing, Outer wing, Too many G\'s or too many hours? or maybe not wanting to do an overhaul if we are getting rid of them anyhow? Thanks Bob
