  1. I think we stayed at the Kings Hotel, on King Street in late 66. I may be wrong on the names.

In Nov 66 they moved us to the Belair Hotel, for whatever reason. I only stayed there a week then went back to Naha.

We were sent down to work on any of the Herks that came in.

We had 3 crews and worked 12 houre on and 24 hours off.

If anyone else was there at the time please let me know for I may have the rong hotel name.

I think the one we were at had an indoor pool with a glass or plastic roof.

  2. I talked with a friend last night whom I saw just under 2 years ago, and told him about the bennies from open heart.

He said it took him 18 months to be approved.

I didn't ask any more questions.

He did say he had to go to the VA a few times and got several letters saying they havn't forgotten about him.

He still dosn't have a VA ID card.

  3. We had a school reunion tonight, for the whole school from 1936 through 1973.

The earliest class there was a couple from1949 and about 400 from the rest of the years.

I should have graduated in 63 but knew it all and finished in 61.

I had to read name tags to reconize most of those people.

My wife graduated in 65 is the reason I got to go. We did date in school before I went in the service.

Don't know why I put this in this thread!!! I was on leave in may 65 when she graduated and got to see that before I went to Naha in June 65.

  4. "But the B2 guys don't actually see body parts flying. They drop their bombs from the safety of altitude and never actually see the carnage they wreak. On the IR, you can actually see the heat leaving the body, especially with massive blood loss. That's death personified. The drone guy may have watched this guy for weeks or even months before "pulling the trigger".

"Maybe watching it all happen live on a TV screen is no big deal. Can you say it doesn't affect them, because I sure can't."

But the B 52 guys were low enough to be shot down by SAMS.

Some of them did and many were taken prisnor.

  5. The Fe, Lm and me as CC usually worked as a team wneh on a mission.

We helped each other till the plane was OR after we landed.

I went to Bangkok about Aug 66 and worked on all C-130,s that came through till I got out in Nov. 66.

I think they called it CALSU or something like that. We had a real good time there. 12 hours on and 24 hours off.

I was supposed to stay longer but they sent my replacement and told me to get back to Naha cause I had 10 days to process out.

Someone was keeping track of how long I was where.

  6. I was in D section from sept 63 till may 65, then went to Naha. Worked on 56468 for Pappy Hayse then Tsgt Shifflet.

    314 oms.

Anyone remember Curley Poston, Gerold Leo, Bullard, Gary Weeks.

Whole bunch of us went there at the same time.

  7. This has brought back the memory of my first engine start.

The Flt. Crew was in the plane and I was next to Pappy Hayse, next to the LM.

#3 started rotation and when it lit a torch went from the exhaust to the ramp and lit up the side of the plane.

By the time the engine stopped turning I was about 3 planes away. It scard the crap outta me.

There was an oil leak at the rear seal and oil had puddeled in the exhaust of that engine.

Pappy just laughed about it and how fast I could run.

  8. I've not been on here very much in Dec, but my heart goes out to you Sonny.

I could have lost my wife for she had kidney cancer but the kidney was removed on the 19th of dec.

Justa fluke the doc. found it.

I was around some of the time Ben was but for the life I can't remember him.
