  1. Our General confirmed what we thought was just a rumor. Since Pope already has hangers built for the J, the AF is planning on taking the J-s that were going to Dobbins and ship them to us at KPOB and send our H2's to Dobbins. He sad it just has to get approved by congress. They said it would save a lot of money since they would not have to build anymore buildings.

Anybody else hear anything about this?

  2. I'd be bummed about leaving Ramstein...then put Pope on top of that! The only good news is that the planes are nice and will AMP'd fairly quickly.

Got any info on that AMP deal. Keep hearing it's going to be along time for that to happen from higher up's. Hoping it comes sooner rather than later.

  3. I have been at Pope for about 2 years. I live in Lillington/Buies Creek. About 28 miles one way to the base. Lot more people moving out here because of all the new Army "BRAC" moving this way from GA. It's peaceful and worth the drive. No city taxes either. I assume you're going to the 2nd. If you will enjoy the SQ CC. He takes care of his folks and care about the non-fliers as much as the fliers. Since the reserve guys go home no later than 2300 every night that's the latest you would normally ever have to work.

Pretty slow tempo right now and it's not all that bad here as long as you don't live around Bragg.

  4. Dont laugh too much but I guess you havent heard of the "Crewmaster" position....

Crewchief and Loadmaster.....wonder who is going to fuel the plane while the "Loadmaster" is loading and doing the Form F.

Did it for 10 years on the 17. Sucked but we made it happen.

  5. Just missed out on 4000 hours on that thing before I went to herks. Man I miss it. I know the die hard herk folks won't understand but 17's are combat proven now and so capable.

  6. I heard 16 also,8 from Pittsburgh 86-0410, 11, 12 13, 14, 15, 18, 19 and 8 from Milwaukee

    87-9282, 88-4401, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07

But the active duty 2 AS permanently parked 86-0412 in the desert.

Pope was supposed to have received 87-9284 from Dobbins as a replacement for 412 after PDM, don't know if they got it yet?

The AMP thing has to do with 86-0413. Maxwell which owned 89-9101 which they had earlier traded from Youngstown, gave up 9101 for AMP. AFRC moved 86-0413 to Maxwell to replace 9101. Wheher 0413 stays at Maxwell or comes back to Pope? Last I heard 9101 is going to AR ANG.

    Bob

We have 9284. We finally get a trip off station for today and 284 canceled that for us. Broke all the time. It might as well not even be here.

  7. I don't believe you guys lost a plane to AMP, unless you just didn't get as many as you had in Wis. AMP testing is finished at Edwards, which only lasted 3 years (not quite forever), and all three planes will be at Little Rock for awhile. I suppose you are expecting to have 89-9101? This airplane came from Maxwell, who got it from one of the units in Ohio. The other two came from Louisville & Charleston, WV. I think Pope is supposed to get AMP 1 (9101), last I heard.

Not sure. All I know is we are supposed to have 16 planes and only have 15 due to the AMP bird being at CA. At least that's what the commander of the 95th said.

What you said makes sense though. I'm A/D so I'm not sure how the reserves are working their planes.

  8. I'm AD at Pope and we can barely get any hours as it is. Can't imagine losing 4 more planes considering one of our 16 has been out at Edwards for the AMP deal forever and we always have one at depot. Don't know how many more years the AMP bird will be out there. These things never fly due to maintenance as it is. We are trying a 3 turn 3 and are lucky if half of the planes fly each day.

  9. Some of theses ACs are flying over the field for 3 hours before they can land,,, what ever happened to air drops to get these people food and water in a much faster pace?

It's on the way. The riggers at Pope are very busy right now. 24 hour ops rigging like crazy.

  10. Here is a scan of a blank page of the flight logs I used to use.

If it fits your needs, take it to the kinko's or someone and have them print some out.

I will make a excell spread sheet based on this page tonight as well, need to combine the dozen odd different little books that I logged my flight info on.

    Dan

    Flightlogblankpage.jpg

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you so much. Same pages I had.

  11. The one I have is small. Only like 4x6 and I lost the last log sheets I had once I started tracking my flight time with palm log pro. Problem is is that if the palm pilot battery goes so does your flight log. I'm ready to go back to paper and don't want to use the big log sheets. The ones they had at Kadena were perfect.

  12. Does anybody know where I can get the replacement flight time log sheets for the MAC purse you get in Kadena. I don't get there anymore so I need another source.

    Thanks.

  13. The 747-8

Boeing (after buying out McD) had in its hands the MD-12 and also had a concept that was in this same category called the Boeing NLA and decided to do nothing with it. I think it was a good call. The A380 is a very large aircraft and right now they are selling seats because of how new and unique she is... but this will die down. The 747-8 will do fine to compete.

What are the differences in the -8 model?

  14. I would jump in here with my opinion, but since neither "mooseherc" nor "mc130pfe" have decided to share their backgrounds or real names with us in their profiles, I'm have no idea what their qualifications are to back up their arguments. My guess is that "mooseherc" is probably in Alaska & "mc130pfe" is in special ops.

OK, my opinion anyway. Apples & oranges. After 40 years in aviation -- 30 years of it as an FE/PFE, military & commercial, I say the C-17, the "legacy" Herc & the J-model are all excellent airframes. I realize that the original thread was about Lockheed and its lack of foresight, but it's turned into a pissing contest between a couple of individuals arguing about the pros & cons of different airframes.

Stepping down from the soapbox now.

    Don R.

I am a prior C-17 SOLL II Evaluator at CHS. Now I'm at Pope.

I should have worded things better. My fault. I am not bashing the Herc by any means. I apologize if it came off that way. I just wish we would have waited and looked at something better than the J or went with the AMP program on a tremendous airframe. I think it would have been money better spent. But I only have limited experience with Herc's and maybe there is a reason that I don't understand.

  15. So when was the last time you saw a C17 slow down in flight to 98 knots to refuel a helicopter, That POS would fall out of they sky. How many have you seen with guns sticking out of the side. How many of them have you seen do the jobs of so many herks out there that you probably have no clue about. Maybe you should do a little research before you come on a herky lovers site and start bashing it.

Obviously they don't do either so your post is pointless. Well the stall speed is less than that. Can a herc carry

40,000 lbs on the ramp alone like a C-17? No. Can a C-17 carry what a C-5 can? No. Not even close. Pointless. See what I mean? And if your on MC-130P's than you've seen C-17's at Multilates doing the same thing C-130's do. Not saying they can do everything a MC can do. Although just about every time I did a multi the two Talons flew and the papa was broke.

Maybe you should do a little research as well. You would have noticed that I said I'm on herks now and I am by no means bashing the plane or it's great history. The J modal I can't stand for the simple fact that I think they could have updated it a little more before Lockheed and the GA congressmen pushed it down the DOD's throat.

I've been coming to this site for a little longer than you so I know not to shit talk about Herc's. Don't turn my OPINION it to that.

Did you defend your old job this much before you cross-trained?
