  1. Attached is a spreadsheet of an updated list of C-130 related acronyms. The list is not inclusive Allied nations may have different meanings for some of the terms/words listed here When in doubt use plain English For Top Gun Operational Brevity words, BFM terminology, and Military Aviation Acronyms see: http://www.f-16.net/glossary-A.html C-130 Acronym Master file.xls
  2. Does anyone have experience requesting a C-130 flyover for Memorial Day honor veterans events? Who should request it? Who would they contact?

  4. Could say it’s ‘Hog killing weather’ but somehow that doesn’t seem appropriate on the flight line. Most everyone knows the expression ‘it’s colder than a Witches tit’ but think about it… how cold would that be. I’ll stick with ‘the Hawk is out’ at balmy McGuire or places where Herks use wheel-ski landing gear.;)

  6. Tech school at Chanute Ill may be the key to knowing about the term “the Hawk” after all its down stream from the windy city. Today the term Polar Vortex may be more appropriate. In any case, my Air Force issue parka with real rabbit fur face protection kept me above freezing.
  7. Is the term the “Hawk†(strong cold winter wind) still used when maintaining aircraft on the flight line when it is cold outside? Is anything colder than working on a C-130 @ 3AM at McGuire NJ in the winter…I don’t think so.

  20. Giz, I heard they mixed JP4, oil, and outdated napalm and lit it up for crash & rescue practice drills. Asbestos between you and the fire sounds pretty good when you’re up to your ankles in burning jet fuel.

  23. Does anyone know how many Broad Area Reviews were dedicated to the C-130? The only one I could find is the January 1998 C-130 Broad Area Review. The review does a good job of detailing probable causes of the King 56 Accident http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/a...130-bartoc.htm

  25. There is an opening for an OBOE/UTILITY ENGLISH HORN musician http://www.bands.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-130829-019.pdf How much will you get paid? New recruits who have satisfactorily completed at least 45 semester hours or 67 quarter hours of college credit are awarded the rank of Airmen First Class (E-3 pay grade) after graduating from basic training. Members assigned to a premier band (The USAF Band or The USAF Academy Band) will be awarded the rank of Technical Sergeant or E-6 upon graduation from basic training. In addition to basic pay, members earn a non-taxable basic allowance for housing and basic allowance for sustenance. Pay and allotments increase as tenure and cost-of-living increases. Basic Training Q. Does every premier band musician have to go through basic training? A. Yes, basic training is a requirement for every Air Force musician, enlisted or officer. Q. What is basic training like? How long is it? A. Basic Training is an initial 8 1/2-week course at Lackland AFB (San Antonio, TX). While in basic training, you'll learn standard military drill and ceremonies, Air Force history, customs and courtesies, and will participate in daily physical fitness exercises. For more details, go to: http://www.basictraining.af.mil/ Q. Do premier band musicians have a technical school to attend after basic training? A. No. While in basic training, all enlisted musicians are assigned to the 737th Training Group Drum and Bugle Corps flight for initial skills qualification. After basic training, Airman musicians report directly to their assigned band. Q. How and when will I know which band I'm assigned to? A. The band at which you auditioned and are accepted is the band to which you'll be assigned. No diversions.
