Fred
Pardon my ignorance please. I wasn't an airlifter back in the day, although I spent a year of my life at lovely Ubon Ratchtani on the banks of the lovely "Moon River" '71/'72. Jcapsparkchaser
Where Was CRB--Cam Ranh Bay-- The Sandbox-- was a Base in South Vietnam where guys (Maintenance Technicians) from places like CCK Taiwan ( too long a name to write it out) Naha Okinawa, Clark in the PI --Phillipines, and Mactan all came together to drink a little beer and fix C-130 Hercules! Later on it would be called The Airlift Rodeo at Pope AFB N.C. Hello Nascarpop and Mt.crewchief always good to hear from fellow Naha friends!

Graywolf88
CRB home of Herky Hill, the only base in country that was a beach. Everything was a beach, sand everywhere, in everything.
Graywolf88
Actually, CRB was the base designation used instead of full name on mission assignments, filing travel vouchers, etc. Each base or air port had a 3 letter designation. CRB = Cam Rhan, TSN = Ton Sun Nhut, ect.....
Spectre623
Up until about 5 years ago you could still see the outline of the barracks foundation on Herky Hill CRB, on google earth. Seems like a million years ago I was there...oh wait it was. Ha ha.
