    TDY\'S

I was at Sewart at that time, well I was assigned there anyway. How long were you there? Was that after the maint Airman was sucked out of one of our birds? I think his name was Gary Back. I was sent to Sewart in sept.63 and don\'t remember my first TDY.

  3. Thanks for the link. It is an interesting read.
  4. Destroyed in seconds is what I was watching. I had never heard of that plane before. There was another story about that rescue on \"When Weather Went Wrong\" My dialup is too slow for UTube.
  5. I watched a program last night where there were rocket engines built onto a C-130. It was built to stop in 1400\' and take off in 1800\'. When it would touch down 2 rocket engines on each side of the fusilage would act as reverse, and on take off there was a bounch of them helping it take off faster. It was to be used to rescue the hostages that were taken while carter(I think) was President. There was a video of the plane comeing in for a landing while in the testing phase. The rockets were ignited before the plane touched down and crashed. Does anyone else know anything about this?
  6. Not trying to be smart but the Ice Road Truckers might could get it there for you. When you said Generator I\'m thinking GTC with all the APU,s attatched.

I watched it on the National Geographics channel last night. I was hopeing they would show more of the planes, specially the C-130,s. They did for an instant flash a couple that had burned out. I left there in Nov. of 66 after a 17 month tour at Naha and where ever else they sent me. I went to Ubon for supposidely 60 days and had to sign a waver that I wouldn\'t take the 30 days off of my tour. When I got there they put me on swing shift tracking down specialest when the planes were about to abort the evening missions. I think I actually stayed there about 7 days and went back to Naha. And yes they did give me that 30 days on my early out, and I didn\'t complain one bit. I had 90 days left whenI got back to the states so they let me out. 60 days of that was leave time.
  9. We were on swing shift and this half crazy guy called Frenchie was on the wing useing the paint remover. It was raining or misting real hard and he was dripping the paint remover on his left hand. It was diluted at the time, but later that night he had sone bad burns on his hand. He was always doing weird stuff.
  10. I remember behind the engines under the horse collar we had to remove the paint around where the engine was connected to the wings on some A models at Sewart. I think it was about 64. I would have been 19 then also. That is about all I remember about it. We did do this from on top of the wing.
  11. http://www.tom-phillips.info/images/funny.military.htm I hope Tom Philips don\'t get mad, It has his name on it. Iffin it aint apporiate, remove it please.
  12. Thanks Ray. My memory card is full and my hard drive has gottom floppy. I got out in 66 so I have a hard time remembering things now. Don
  13. I remember 2 numbers from the 60,s. Mil-7808 and I think there was a Mil-5606. Was this 5606 hydraulic fluid or a figment of my old imigination? Did it even exist?
  14. Anyone remember the A model at CRB that hit a morter hole in the runway and tore the nose l/g from under it? I think the number was 55-0033, or 54-0033. The base Co. had a cable run through the cocpit windows to pull it off the runway but the cable tore out the front windows. What ever happened to it?
  15. I knew there was a reson I never walked barefoot on that floor while we were inflight.
  16. It\'s been over 40 years for me. Did the A model have the under floor heat?
  17. The only thing that comes to mind for me is the \"Hog Trouf\" and \"Pogo Stick\". Well it,s been over 40 years. Almost forgot the \"Beaver Tail\".
  18. Welcome. Sit a spell and share a smile. Don
  19. I carried my wife in for eye surgery yesterday and got to talking to a lady waiting on someone. She said her husband had died about 2 weeks ago, and ask if I was around in SEA. She said her husband had been in SEA and layed in the back of a plane and put fuel in other planes. I said Boom Operator and she said yes. Then I said KC-135 and she said yes again. I wish I had gotten his name cause he was around in 64 and later. Where were the KC-135 stationed durning that time frame? BTW good picture.
  20. That looks pretty amazing to me. Thanks for all these photos. Don.
  21. NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED! A biker is riding by the zoo when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion\'s cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents. The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage, and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch. Whimpering from the pain, the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A NYT reporter has seen the whole scene and, addressing the biker, says, \'Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life.\' \'Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right.\' \'Well, I\'ll make sure this won\'t go unnoticed. I\'m a journalist from the New York Times, you know, and tomorrow\'s paper will have this on the first page. What motorcycle do you ride and what political affiliation do you have?\' \'A Harley Davidson and I am a Republican.\' The journalist leaves. The following morning the biker buys The New York Times to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads on the first page: \'REPUBLICAN BIKER GANG MEMBER ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH!\'

  23. Pappy Hayse at Sewart said he once saw a C-130 with all 4 props feathered flying sideways on the GTC, make a safe landing. These were great planes in the day.
