  1. Nickle, post the picture and maybe just one of us can fill you in as to who, what and where. Can you also add something about him name, AF job, assignments etc. Muff
  2. The Habu was there long before the rats. In 1963 when I arrived at Naha...the incommers briefing fully briefed uo on the dangers of the Habu. During those days it was fun to explore the caves that were all over the south end of the island. Never saw a habu in the wild but did find a couple of WWII bobby traps. Muff
  3. Eric, congrats on your 20 years of service to this great country, and thank you. I have been retired since 1985. I was in a small plane crash in 1962, was banged up pretty bad. Navy hospital patched me up and after a year of light duty I went back to full duty, spent the next 22 years maintaining airplanes, scuba diving, and went on to be an IFE on the Herk. Three years after I retired I went to the VA to get my name on the "Agent Orange" roster. The VA did a look back at my medical records and gave me a 30% disability for the injuries I had in 1962. I resently had that upgraded to a 50% disability. I do all of my medical care at a VA hospital...My point is this....if you have any type of injury that happened during service time make sure it is in your records. As soon as you get back here to the states go to a VA medical center/hospital and get enrolled in the VA svstem. If you are an OIF/OEF veteran you will be given five years of free care. Right now the VA is signing up Cat 8 veterans that is folks with no disabilities.... The VA care is excellent, sometime have to wait, and parking at the facilitties is always tough but the price is right. Lastly I would suggest looking at staying in a few more years...you will never find a job with better folks thatn those you are with right now or even at your next base. Life is short and passes fast. Eat up those great days we all enjoyed and bitched about when in. I sure miss those days and all the people I served with...even the few assholes that I ran into once in awhile. Muff
  4. Just for kicks I would have liked to see how they did that. How many crains, what was the removal of inside equipment etc. Muff
  5. 6. You and I may have been in the same 43 school I do not remember class number or sqdn data. Yea right!!! Being from Boston I had told all my friends that I was joining the AF and was going south to Texas for a warn winter. Hell it was colder in Texas than in Boston. Back then we had the unlined field jackets and you could button on a hood. We went down town and bought the hoods at an army/navy type store. But then we could not wear them on base as Sheppard was in a tropic zone and the hoods were not authorized. Being airmen basics we did not dare break the rules and frozz our ears off. Muff
  7. I was at Sheppard Late 1958 into 1959. Sat in PATs barracks for many weeks waiting to be assigned to a tech school. Was supposed to go to hyd school but it was closed before we got there. I ended up pulling KP for 40 days straight....and usually got to the mess hall last and had to do pots and pans or peel potatos and veggies. Left Sheppard and went to Forbes on RB47Ks. I do not remember the C-130 there. We worked on a B57, F-80 and some other fighter don't remember.
  8. Tiny I love your replies and note that they are very valid and sound....but you are wrong about plans for a RC C-130 model do not exist. Six years ago I saw a set of plans for sale on E-bay and thought that would be a grerat project and I bought the plans. I paid $26.00 plus postage. I have the plans but never got to make the model as I build a new home instead. When I saw this thread I went to the storage closet and dusted off the plans.... Thomas if you fire me an e-mail I will sell the plans at the same I paid for them The plans: C-130 RC Airplane plans with instruction booklet 87 inch wing span ,all wood construction, retract installation shown in plans . It is 64.168 inches long height 25.875 inches, total weight with out fuel 10 lbs 12 ozs. Muff Millen [email protected] OBTW; I'm now 71 years old and fully retired and spend all my time with grand kids and relaxing. No time for any more models.

Rick is correct...I had forgotten that the fire engine had ended up at the Minila airport. OBTW...the AF fire truck and the Fire Empire are in no way connected!

Donwan, I remember that story well. It is true that the Philppinos did steal a fire truck and drove it right out the main gate. It was in the mid 60s. It was located at some near by town but all id marks and serial numbers had been removed and the US officials could not prove that it was an AF vehicle.....posession is 9/10s of the law??? Muff OBTW I could not fly within 10000 feet of the PI and not get arroused.
  11. Just a bit of info when 1847 ws a child about 10 years old I see by my log book that I was the Flight Engineer on a mission on that trustworthy herk. We flew a total of 6.5 hours. And completed 8 sorties shuttling rice and other supplies between Utapao Thailand and Phnum Penh Cambodia. Date was 17 August 1973. A great plane and had zero write-ups from that mission. Sorry to see her put in the scrap yard....She would make a great display airplane at the front gate of some air base. Muff
  12. I've watched this several times and have a question....what took so long to shut the engines down? Or was it just that the vedio was in slow motion and made it look like a long time? Muff
  13. Fuel: Fuel Capacity @ 5.6 lbs/gal 39,955 lbs Internal Tanks 5,250 gals External Tanks 900 gals Total Fuel Volume 6,150 gals I just got this info from a post by Dutch on the general forum Muff
  14. Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his minions and allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo! The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana ) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture and recorded in a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded. Better buy extra ammo on your trips to the Wal-art as you can see it will cost much more in the near future. Muff Any privately held un-coded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including hand loaded ammo.) They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more! If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun! This legislation is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington. Send to your friends in these states AND fight to dissolve this BILL!! To find more about the anti-gun group that is sponsoring this legislation and the specific legislation for each state, go to: http://ammunitionaccountability.org/Legislation.htm
  15. I remember the class room, the training sorties , the NCO club, Sam Ridley and a few motel rooms down the road. Met a couple ladies there that knew the Bold Face procedures better than most FEs. Muff

  17. I did a google search for Korean Service Defence Medle and a lot of folks are eligible but have to dig out old tdy forme etc and apply to USAF. Get full story on Google. Muff . Criteria: Service members must have been assigned, attached or mobilized to units operating in the area of eligibility for 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive days, or meet the following criteria: a. Be engaged in combat during an armed engagement, regardless of the time in the area of eligibility. b. While participating as a regularly assigned air crewmember flying sorties into, out of, or within the area of eligibility in direct support of military operations. Each day that one or more sorties are flown in accordance with these criteria shall count as one day toward the 30 to 60 day requirement. d. 18. Yea Bill I knew it was you my bad I thought you were crew chief I forgot the Spector623 handle. Happy New Year. Muff
  19. Didn't you used to be "Crew Chief"? Congrats on the VSM. Now your next best step is to get over to the VA hospital and get your name registered on the Agent Orange register. In case (God forbid) you should come down with some AO related problem you could qualify for a VA disability. Happy New Year neighbor. Muff
  20. I remember the Spare runs we used to make out of TSA...some American GIs, some Veitnamese, and sometimes all Korean. By far the Korean troops always left the plane cleaner than when they boarded...no so for the other groups. Jim and Dennis...drop me an e-mail so I can add you to my e-mail list. frankmillen@@charter.net drop an@. Muff:)
  21. I think Gold Tooth was in her late 20s when I was there . How many of you remember the \"Turkey Farm\" out the back gate? Muff
  22. Come on Ken, that was 45 years ago and you expect for me to remember the bar names!!! Hell I was too occupied trying to find something interesting....Jacks Steak house was on the main street with all the night clubs and most of us ended up there before we went back to base if we had time before the curfew hour. If we missed curfew...we had to scramble to find a warm mat to sleep on out of sight of the First Sgt or the APs. Muff
  23. How about Jacks Steak house in Naminone? Muff
  24. Man! wow the brake sound of the C-124 and or the KC-97 a sound that we never hear any more. Oh those good old days. Just for info sake if you have that kind of noise from a Herk I would suggest a look at the wheel bearings....something ain\'t right. Muff Millen
