  1. Damn Bob you stole my thunder! She\'s suppose to be back tomorrow and I\'ll have some new pics of her. I\'ve seen some early previews but the quality is poor (phone-cam). I hope to have some fresh pictures this week! We\'re not putting externals on her as she will be a prototype systems bird for the Aviation Logistics Center (old ARSC). Senior sends
  2. Heard a bit today. Seems the NLG strut broke internally during some T&Gs at an \"austere\" field. The thing held together enough to bring them home and didn\'t fall apart during a \"very soft\" landing. Don\'t know the tail #, etc. Waiting to see pictures... Hope to hear more soon... Senior Sends
  3. Excellent Job Casey!! Lots of great info and good people! Senior Sends
  4. :P Ah the internet, what a wonderful thing...:woohoo: That snake if a fine example of a Cuban Boa, ala Gitmo. The dumbazz, er, crewman is the loadmaster (whose name escapes me at the moment) because the FE (OH, this IS embarrasing) was running away screaming like a girl! When the crew drove up they thought it was an iguana...at first. Seriously the pics were taken down in Gitmo in 01-02 time frame. Another crew, another time, found one up IN the NLG well during preflight...makes you kinda hesitate to stick your head up there, let me tell you! Once the Marines stateed to pick up all the land mines down there the wildlife came out of the woodwork. We almost ran off the road to the \"Q\" at O-dark-thirty due to a herd of deer! Ah, the night life of Gitmo...it was what you made of it! Senior Sends
  5. ;) I guess I deserved that... We first thought that the location was Elizabeth City NC but the background buildings were wrong. One thought was NAS Norfolk because E-City\'s field was frequently closed for low ceilings. Another thought was Marietta because all the planes would have gone back there at one time or another. Other guesses have been, Otis AFB, Gander NFLD, St Johns NFLD, NAS Pax River... We\'ll keep diggin\' Thanks for playing!
  6. There is one story about the white tail but we cannot find another \"senior\" aviator to back it up...The paint job was one of the first to come out of PDM and get the \"new\" racing stripe design from the previous all red nose. The PDM shop (Fairchild) was to paint the aircraft all white and the USCG at Elizabeth City (ARSC) would paint the new design. During the paint job an urgent SAR case came up and the neighboring Air Station had no \"Up\" aircraft. The word came down to strip the masking paper off the aircraft \'cause its going flying! So the stripe was painted and the tail was not...at least not right away! Like I said, that was back in the \"Old Guard\" and anything was possible back then. I\'m still trying to figure out where where it\'s sittin\'...:)
  7. That\'s the one! Thanks Casey! Is there anyway to contact the person who submitted this picture? We are very curious where this was taken...there are about 4 or 5 others taken in the same spot. The building under the tail is in every picture. Thanks again!
  8. We are looking at painting one of our C-130s (4529) with a \"Vintage\" paint job and I was looking at the \"old\" B model pictures and noticed that several were missing. Is that the result of the \"copyright\" issue a while back? I am specifically looking for a picture of a B model in the LAC 3533 to LAC 3650 range with the Coast Guard orange nose but with an all white tail(?). We want to try and recreate the old-style CG shield shown on that one. I\'d also like the story behind the all-white tail! Oh, and where are those pictures taken? The background is the same for several of the birds but a lot of us that been around can\'t place it... Thanks for your help! PS Bob, I would have asked directly but I lost your email address...
  9. We were sitting around telling sea storys about who flew what and when and the C-130 designations came up (Bs, Es, Hs, H(H)s, & Vs). We had 4 HC-130H(H)s out in Sacramento (McClellan AFB) in the 80s, 1454(4265), 1453(4260), 1452(4255) and 1451 which was a \"loaner\" from the AF after we lost the 1600 on Attu, AK. We couldn\'t remember what the extra (H) stood for in the designation. The planes all had the fulton nose and were plumbed for internal tanks and had the overhead rail system in them. Any help out there? Senior Sends
  10. The Coast Guard used to have a teletype for communications and we had an inverter that would give you 110 volts 60 cycles. We ran tape players then CD players off of it with the occational coffee pot or microwave. We also had a med pallet we could use in HI, PR or AK for transporting critical care patients. I think we had one in Sacramento (McClellan) too.
  11. Of the 6 Js the CG has, only 2 have the tanks. They were put together from pieces parts, reworked and rewired. We are planning on putting tanks on all the Js if the $$ comes through. Yes, the range down low where we work is not as great as advertised, that\'s why the tanks are coming. We also modded the flight deck for 5 seats! The FE is now a FM, Flight Mech. Hallaluyah!
  12. Oxygen - On/100% Eng\'s up..goin\' aft for a box lunch... You just fly it, we\'ll fix it... Great job Casey, can\'t wait till the rest of Bob\'s collection get loaded in.
