Guys, I just got a couple emails from an old ex-loady buddy of mine who lives in Fayetteville, NC. he retired there after about a 100 years at Pope. Anyway,, they apparently had some devastating storms through there yesterday, including torrnadoes, and did quite a bit of damage, in the Morgantown Place, LaGrange, Summerhill, and Cottonair areas, as well as North Reilly Road to Simmons Airfield. Bragg took some hits, he did not say anything about Pope. i know many of you have connections to that area. Thought I would pass this on. prayers and Wishes to all affected!!! Giz

Some old A model? I can't remember ever actually usin' it in class. We had the simulated cargo compartments inside, if I remember right. In my first post here I said I thought Brummett went to Sewart, could I have been wrong about that? Was it closed by June of 70? He had a terrible time with the math part of the class. He would, during the block exams, smack his fingers on the edge of the desk,ever so often. Finally one of the instructors asked him what the hell he was doin'. he says " I can't figure out the problem, so I use the SMART system, each finger is either A,B,C, or D. When i hit the table, which ever one smarts the most is the answer." yeah, he graduated, too. Only a loady....... Giz

Well, yes, we all, best I can remember, had most of our fatigues done over, pegged pants and short sleeved. One of the first things we did once we started class. We most definitely had zippers in our boots,too, at least most of us. Load school then was, I think,maybe ten weeks. Somebody from that time period can correct me. That is once you started school. There was a thing called PATS, Personnel Awaiting Training Status, that everyone had to do for a short period of time, basically slave labor. I think back then it was only supposed to be maybe a week, ten days max, then ya did KP at one of the slop halls, and then to school. But for some reason, we kept gettin shuffled back for the the loady course. I think I did nearly three weeks maybe longer. One morning an ariman two striper had all loadmaster candidates fall out of morning formation and join him off to the side. We thought okay this is it, he says " You guys are gonna be responsible for loadin and off loadin airplanes, so you need to start gettin' used to it." We spent two damn days hauling refrigerators into a new BOQ they had built. We had this totally ridiculous thing everyday after class, called Noon tune. We all,everyone that was in classes up by the flight line, had to march in these big ass formations back to the squadron areas. There was a little platform that somebody would stand on,everyday,and salute. Sometimes it would be an officer, more times than not, it would be an NCO. The whole loadmaster contingent, and there were maybe four or so classes goin' on the same time, would get together int he middle of the formation, and start doin' the' Oh, Oh, EE, Oh, off to work we go" from Snow White. I had some of the best instructors I ever had then. of course, once we graduated we still had, back then, once we got to our duty assignment, more training on the specific plane we would be flyin'. We all knew where we would go, just about the time we graduated,....I went to Langley ( I'm 4 from the left in row 2), I think Georgeson went to a test and development squadron, Brummet was goin' to Sewart, i think but i think they closed shortly afterward. I think the California guys all went to Travis, but i can't be sure. Banks went to 141's some where, Stoddard went to Pease in ARRS, Hamblin, I think went to Pope, because i ran into him a year or so after we left Sheppard. The rest i cannot recall for sure, One I think went to Dyess, perhaps, and my fuzzy mind says one went to Forbes, but i ain't swearin' to it. After that, who knows where they all went. But like i said, we were a pretty diverse group, and got along very well. I was sort of the math guru for the bunch, and I helped them out. Would I do it again? You damn right. I hope they all have made it to old age, had a good life, and I would love to meet them again. Sorry for all the wordiness, but you asked!!!! While rummaging around for somethin' else, I came across this picture, from June 1970, of my loadie class, at Sheppard. Does anyone recognize any of these guys, or know where they are now? Front row: Georgeson (ID, Hearne (TXs), Merrow (CA), Brummett (TN), Yeakley (AK), Hamblin (KY) Second row: TSGT Mike Hollman,instructor (was in 316th around 72), Correa(CA), Gannon(TX), Parish(WV, now D), Stoddard(VT, went to Pease Rescue), Banks(GA) Vaughn (IN) Classick(CA), Rudek(CA) I hope I can attach the picture. Sure would like to know where these guys ended up. It seemed to me that we were quite a bunch and got along well. But 41 years AGO????? Giz

Damn, only a little over a month fter I saw her....... Like losin' another friend, I reckon. She was so very much like i remembered our old E's, very little differnce. Somewhere on her is a wooden coin about the size of a quarter, on one side it has the log of Chapter 172, VVA, and on the other side it says 'Welcome Home." Hope it stay son her for a long, long time. Giz

How about 7840? She was the bird i got to see at Martinsburg last fall. She was supposed to be goin' away sometime after the first of the year. I put one of our wooden nickels from Vietnam veterans chapter 172 on her before I got off. Probably will be the last E model, if not the last Herk I will ever be on.......... Giz

Probably still in his wall locker I did a LAPES drop at Bragg one time, it was a communications jeep, with all kinds of radios and stuff on it. Drogue went out fine, extraction chutes opened just like advertised,and then for some reason they separated from the load, it went barrelin' down the DZ, hit a ditch and just wadded up...............Never learned why that happened. I bet that was a rather expensive 'Oh shit". Seems to me it was done for some congressmen or some VIP's.IDID hear that it was a last minute rig, because they wanted somethin' a little heavier than just a Jeep to drop, so they commandeered this one. It was rigged by Army, who did most of the rigging down there, right??

This is along the lines of the posts snowyday has been puttin' up. like his, it is just bizarre enough to maybe be true. This came from my half-brother, career Army......three Nam tours, if i remember right..... Here goes the company first shirt noticed a private walkin' around picking up pieces of paper, looking at them, muttering something and then throwing them back down. he watched him for several days, finally got close enough to the guy to hear his say, every time he picked up a piece of paper "Damn this ain't it!!!"" They finally send him for mental evaluation, find him mentally incompetent for military service, and give him a section 8 discharge. On his way out the gate, the guard asked for his papers.The discharged soldier opens the envelope they gave him, reads the paper and hollers 'Hot damn THIS is it." '

Are you sayin" I'm old????????????????????????? How dare you, I am NOT old, just advanced in years. Seriously, though, of us with relatively small knowledge of computers can, in fact, be a bit wary. My first computer experience was with an IBM 360, and a PDS1000, I think it was. Then came the Wang desk top computer, that was around "68. I didn't have any further computer experience, until about 98, believe it or not. It is good to know that there are people out there who are willing to give a hand to an OLD person. LOL. Like I always tell some of the young pups I associate with frorm time to time, I may be old, but I KNOW I'll make it to 62, you don't. Truly, the more I play with this firefox, the more I like it. Firefox is gonna take a little gettin' used to after all the years of IE, but it is most definitely faster and less hassle. EXCEPT I still cannot get that damn Flash player to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yup, mispelled on purpose.........now the Flash did uninstall, like it has before and if i go and try to upload flash again, it goes through the process, enters on my system but does not run. Okay I'm gonna try firefox and see what happens. I don't have to uninstall IE or anything, just make it my default browser? Giz

Okay, I have done all that multiple times, am using 32 bit IE. Liek I say i can find it installed by looking in the add and remove portion of control panel but it just won't run. There are several different so-called fixes but none have worked. Now I have heard some good stuff about firefox. I kno wit is a free download and allthat, but if i installed it what all would that affect on my machine, etc that I would need to update??? sorry to be such a pain,but I can see you are much more knowledgable than i am in regards to this stuff. gotta remember I spent my workin' career mainly runnin' into places everybody else was runnin' out of. You guys out there seem to be able to fix everything but the crack of dawn and a broken heart, somaybe you can help me out here. I am NO computer whiz-bang, i can barely start it some days, but I got a hateful virus in my machine couple weeks ago, had to hav eit cleaned. For some reason Flash Player won't run now, i have tried probably ten times at least to down oad it an dget it to run. It goes into my programlist but won't run. The adobe site help is wrothless. i think they wnat ya to just give up. Any idea??? giz

That is SUCH a shame about them not gettin' their tires fixed. Maybe they should have had some spares............. I do a large number, too large actually, of honor guard duties for vets here where I live. As a member of the honor guard of Chapter 172, Vietnam veterans of America, I occasionally am called to attend services for veterans other than Vietnam. Every funeral I do, I consider myself honored to be able to pay last respects to ANY vet. The majority of our events occur at the Maryland State Veteran's Cemetary at Rocky Gap. I think I can say, with extreme confidence, that if this bunch of hypocrite, chicken-shit pansies shows up at one of OUR funeral services, this bunch of hilbillies is gonna show them the error of their ways REAL quick. I hope it never comes to that, but you can bet it WILL get dealt with, if need be. Giz
