  1. Are you sure its the anti-skid? Did you try turning it off then seeing how the brakes feel? Im sure they did but just in case.
  2. I think thats just one of those stories that gets around. Theres a story floating around the Coast guard similar to this. Our story goes something like this... A c130 crew form AIRSTA X flys to hawaii to do mission XYZ and get a rental car whily TAD. On the rental agreement they read that the car can be returned to any rental car ageny in the US. They figure if it says it, it must be true. So they load up the car, head back over the pond, once back where ever they are from they return the car. Car company freaks but cant do anything.... Another story is similar but with power carts, aircrew flys in, they have a hard time getting a power cart, once they finally get one they decide to keep it. They leave and the CO of the unit calls them up looking for a power cart and makes them come back. They deep six it before getting back. No more power cart. It might be true but it might just be sea stories.
  3. I am in the Coast Guard and really appreciate this. Thank you! Some give all so others may live. RIP crew of Coast Guard resuce 1705
  4. I think no TCAS is a grounding discrep in the Coast Guard. So they should have had it. Now if the cobra had it turned on or not is something else. Ive heard stories of fighters coming up and flying under our wings with out anyone knowing until they saw them. Just to mess with us. Still a very sad day. I wish i could go help search. My prayers go out to the familes.
  5. Well I see what your saying. They did get rid of the postions. But they really arent needed. Given the new technology a Nav REALLY isnt needed and the plane does most of the work of the FE. Now the sytem knowledge the FE had would be nice but im sure that kind of thing will come with time. I think most of the hate is from change. most people hate change. Sh*t changes everyday.
  6. no big deal airnav. Most legacy lovers have the same feelings for the J. I really dont know why? The plane is still a ruged durable C-130. Its just been brought into the 21st century. And I also appreciate your admiration, we do it for the same reasons as the other branches just a slightly different mission.
  7. Go ahead dan keep thinking of sh*it. im on a deployment now so ill be using the chains under the seat pad tonight. wonder how long itll take to figure out. we have the perfect CP for it too. should get a good laugh at least.
  8. Nice RAYJ very nice. all ive ever done is put chains in the pilots flight bags or suitcasses.
  9. who would actually do the repairs? well being that we dont have an offical coast guard HERP I really have no clue who would do that work. but im guessing it would be the Flight mechanic. sits behind the pilots and does the preflights and some inflight duties. on the road its his plane. he is also the loadmaster for the plane. so im guessing hes the one that would do some of these tasks in the coast guard. Airforce? the chew chief? i dont know
  10. yeah lets get the knowledge going. first we need to pick a tittle then well get the ol time stories going. pass some info along. you aint gonna use it when your pushing daisys....
  11. he did bring up a good point. probably a great thread too "I remember when I had to ____ to get _____ working again" or "RON(remain over night) switches". But theres only so much you can get passed down from the guys you work with. So maybe we can start a thread from past "inginuity fixes". To pass to the few FNGs in the community.
  12. Well Im not really looking to get tons of info for the J from the E or H pub but i think itll still be kinda cool to read. If they made one for the E and H im sure they made one for the J unless airnav was right and they wouldnt need one for some reason.
  13. does the J not go to the desert? Or get shot at? Did they add the ballistic shield around Airforce J's? We didnt get that with our contract. Damn Airforce and their money. So either your being funny or you know something I dont. Either is a possiblitly. Dan Willson I think your right, I will look for the HERP at work and see if we have an old copy from an H. Thanks for everyones help. Even your airnav :/
  14. ok if thats not ringing any bells how about a kit that included jumpers for doing certain tasks? Guess Ill just have to wait until monday and ask that guy what pub he was talking about. He said it was a very large book about doing certain things to the plane that were only allowed if the shit was hitting the fan. damn i wish someone knew this pub itll be interesting reading.
  15. Ok well thanks for the great replys. I didnt know i asked a stupid question to get these stupid answers. Thanks.
  16. Someone at work mentioned some kind of Airforce wartime manual. Basicly what things you can do to get the plane going when your getting shot at. An example would be plugging bullet holes in the plane with sharpened bamboo sticks to allow pressurization. Does anyone know this manual I speek of? Also a J model specific book would be awesome. If anyone has a copy of either an H or J book id love to read through it. TIA
