  1. Several years ago (1971) We (834AD) were tasked to repair an E model at an in-country location.. The Acft had been involved in moving captured rice from Laos back into SVN... At the drop site the crew had backed too close to a drainage ditch and dropped the Lt. rear main into the ditch snapping the torque strut... We used tie-dn straps and 'J' bars for a splint... Cranked the inboards and pulled fwd about thirty feet... The army brought in wing jacks, strut changed and acft flown back to TSN.. Can anyone add to this story?? Like how it got stuck in a ditch!!! Army and wing jacks are another story..

  2. :[ These are some snaps taken in SVN in Sept. '70.. I don't remember the place or the tail number.. Somewhere in the delta.. We were dispatched from the 834th at TSN and arrived late in the day.. Flood lites were already in place and this HerkyChicken sure looked sad.. Policy was, fly it in 48 hours or burn it... We scabbed over the remains and it was ferried to the PI.. CC was a buck sgt. .. He was very upset that his acft was hurt.. Hardest worker on the crew.. I'm the one talking to the MP.. Any one remember this??

  3. RE; The Way It Is, with John Wayne.... I received a copy a couple of years back from Rick Ivers.. He dupped it for me.. If he is still with us maybe he knows where you can get a copy... Good story..

  4. In '71 we removed the GTC and loaded it in the cargo compartment along with other pieces of scrap.. An E model had been damaged with a satchell charge placed on the left fwd main blowing away left side of the acft.. Hoses were capped, bleed air capped, tires replaced and the area scabbed over with full sheets of T3... Buddy started and flown to the PI from SVN..........

  5. Still have elephants guarding the carport.. Raindeer slippers from Finnland, globe bar from Italy, elephant skin nav bag from Bangkok still in use, English brass rubbings, German coocoo clocks from the black forest... LaMouge cristal lamps from France and Luxemborg... Things that no one asks about anymore.. Camel saddle holds the toilet tissue.. Cold and rainy here this evening

  6. A few days ago I remember someone mentioning they could not get the tail numbers of the herkychickens at NAS PNS museum. I got over there this wkend and here is the best hot... I missed the tour bus by mins but managed this thru the fence... 9798 appears to be the number.... Can this help??...

  7. Full ID check here at Tyndall... Finger print is copied to the ID card and scanned at the gate... If scan dosen't show the update then access is denied.. DOD window stickers are not being issued here... It makes it hard to get into DOD installations that are not using the new system... We have updated the ID cards and then registered the vehicles at the Navy base across town for easy access elsewhere.....Homeland Security is linking our mil ID cards to your state ID system... Anyone can tell if you have a driving record also if yiou were grounded for a drinking problem.....

  8. Late one evening in 1958 I helped dnload a new E typ Jag from a B-47E at Lockborne AFB... There was a flt of '47's rote'ing back from England and this fellow had to stop for fuel at Kef and Goose while the others pressed on..(couldn't make the tanker between Kef and Goose) The ferry tank was missing and the pallette had the car strapped in place... We lowered it as we would have done the ferry tank.. After everything was cleaned up the next day we noticed a bunch of security surrounding the aircraft... I don't think things went well after that...:(
