Early in 1966, the Lockheed Tech. Rep. embedded withour squadron operating A Models, advised that a problem had arrisen in the operation of the static line retriever winch, and the company was keen to hear of any potential solutions. The reported problem involved a paratrooper remaining attached to the end of his static line, and the retriever winch being unable to draw the static lines, with dangling body, back into the aircraft. Aparantly, the aditional load (weight plus aerodynamic) caused the retriever winch line to whip abnormally and trigger the Rewind Limit Switch on the carriage of the winch, releasing the Rewind Relay. Repeated toggling of the Rewind Selector sw…

We are trying to confirm if there are units still using the Benson tanks. This mainly applies to the MC/HC guys and gals. We keep getting conflicting information and the best way is to get it from the source if possible. Email me at [email protected] with your response please. OK... Engine and Gearbox oil pressures. Engine 50-60 +/- 10 (for a range of 20 USAF written, USMC/ISN implied) What can you say... the flux exceeds the limitation Gearbox 130 or 150-250 +/-20 (for a range of 20 USAF written, USMC/ISN implied) HUGE flux I do not want to get into the limitation themselves but would like to poll the Forum on application of the flux limitation… There is a movement to “allow†the flux to go above or below the maximum and/or minimum values (UNDERSCORED LIMITATIONS) as long as the “mean†is in the allowable range. So say the mean is 131 worst case +/- 20 the “allowable†flux would be as low as 111… Plea…

During the Dash 1 power on portion of the preflight inspection we seem to have mass confusion in our squadron on a specific step, Item 8. ADI SEL switches - NORM. This setting seems to be a great debate among our engineers. Does this step refer to the ADI NORM/ADI REPEAT switch on the copilots FDMS or the ADI SEL switchs on the pilot and copilots side to select the ADIs to either NORM or SKE. And if it is the ADI NORM/ADI REPEAT switch on the copilots FDMS then why does Item 8 say switches instead of switch since there is only one of these.

On the ISO work card deck, Card NO. 1-214 it says: D. FLOW CONTROL VALVE FILTER CONDITION; CLEAN BY ULTRASONIC METHOD (AIRCRAFT PRIOR TO 74-1658). The IPB does not show this filter. Has anyone ever delt with this before? Is the filter within the flow control valve? There should be one for the flt deck and cargo compartment. Thanks.

I am looking for some help with window specifications. Does anyone know if there is a mil spec number for the plexiglass used in the cabin windows? My customer wants to replace some windows that are crazed (aren't we all a little... these days?) Also, crew door technical data or drawings. Where would I find a drawing for the crew door on an H model?

Hello, Can anyone direct me to a webpage where I can find the technical data of an "E" model? Belgian Air Force aquired a 1964 "E" model from Evergreen Aviation, to replace the CH-02 which got lost in a fire at SABENA-Technics, Brussels International, (EBBR). And maybe someone can help me with the "Super E" model? Thanks in advance !

This incident occurred last August. Damage was noted during pre I's and E's inspection. Upon further inspection we found extensive damage throughout the rest of the engine. Investigators determined that damage had to come from two after body screws that were found to be missing. I was hesitant to accept this explanation because I just dont see how they could have ended up in the intake. I have seen afterbody screws back out before and I usually find them down in the oil pan. My supervision was more focused on pointing the finger at us crew chiefs so they automatically assume human error in that we should have seen those screws missing two days earlier during a combo. I am…

On acft 62-1793, s/n 3743 there is a probe that is approx. half down the rt outbd l/e, any input to what this is/was for? It can be seen in Bob's gallery of photos for this acft, you can see the probe on acft of like year but not all of them have it. How is the ASIP program being run for the MC-130P? In the -6 the sections for MC-E and MC-P are "reserved". Where is the Air Force getting data for these planes? I was thinking they could just be using data from all the other herks to track trends across the entire fleet including MC-Ps. Anyone know how it works for sure?

Alright guys, a few weeks ago I posted a question about C-130A model fuel systems. I received quite a bit of information, thanks! Well, I am down here now and have had the chance to get on the bird and look around. They have a fuel quantity indication problem and I am hoping that atleast one of you knows of a place that carries the components they will need to fix their discrepancy, ie. probes, fuel density caps, fuel quantity relays. I am hoping that someone somewhere stockpiled a wharehouse full of A model parts somewhere. Thanks again all.

Just a fun one that came up at work today. What is everyones guess (Or even better, someone who has access to specific data) as to the total number of fasteners on a bone stock, unmodified new Herk? I'm talking about rivets, hilocks, bolts, screws ect.. The WHOLE lot. I am certain that this actual information is available, as every part, panel, and structural component has a print. I will try to find the real number, but in the mean time who has a guess. Helluva game of "how many jellybeans in the jar".

I'm trying to locate a TCTO # for installing drain holes in the two small rectangular access panels outboard of the belly band. The panels are maybe 5" x 7" and cover a 1" elbow for urinal drain line. I've checked a few acft here at WR and have discovered some acft have the drain holes and some do not. I'm told the holes resulted from a TCTO, but no one seems to recall the #. Not even sure of the time frame for the TCTO...if I had time frame, engineers could search the data base a little easier. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Scott

Looking for an answer to a question I have had for many years--since 1970!!! I was at Naha for a Wing-Tip Light TCTO on 62-1804 from CCK. While I was there waiting for a crew to fly it back to CCK, there was a C-130 parked in the transit area where I was parked, and it had two sets of prop blades on each engine! One set in front of another. I don't remember if they were three bladed or four. The plane was painted a bright brown camo. pattern and I think it was from Australia or somewhere like that! Maybe New Zealand. There was some insignia on it but I can't remember what it was. If I remember right it was a bird or some kind of animal! I think I had sobered up from a…

I need some help in painting a large scale model of a C-130. I have a picture of what I want to try to replicate, Can anyone tell me the FS # of the Gray on the lower fuselage? Secondly, I need the widths of the White-Red-White warning stripes on the prop tips. I seem to remember 2",3",2". If I am mistaken, please advise. For any and all, I can post pics of the model when I complete it if there is any interest among the membership. This may not be the correct forum for such a question, if so; I apoligise. Please know I am and will be greatful for any assistance. Thank you in advance.

What this triangular pod thing above the gear and what's the thing above the center windscreen between the horns? I've seen my share of MC-130s but these two mods are new to me.

Hello all, I am a new member and need some help getting information regarding the fuel system on C-130A models. I am a fuel cell mechanic and have worked C-130's for 13 years but the earliest models I have worked are B models. I would like to get an idea of the major changes done from A models as well as specifics of the original system. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

I have a static line retriever that is blowing the current limiters anytime the switch is (bumped) it wont blow the limiter if you just hold the switch but it blows when the switch is bumped just to bring in the cable a bit at a time. We have new relays on order but has anyone ever had this problem?
