  1. Jim, I couldn't manage to enlarge the orders you sent! Will have to try another way I guess. When I left Naha in Mar. 69, I was by myself. I think I was the first or one of the first to do that! Not long after I got to CCK, one of my good friends John Chase showed up and then there were several more later. For the life of me I can't remember their names. I do think Larry Hinch was one of the guys. He also caught up with me at Dover later!!! I know CCK was short of crew chiefs/maint. personnel as I got sent on a CRB Input before I even was finished in-processing!! Was interesting as it was the first E-Model I had ever set foot on!!!! Try sending those orders again, Ken
  2. You know, I don't ever remember seeing any psp around CRB, but I didn't get around much!! I imagine the base was several years old by the time I had the opportunity to visit!!! I went there in 67,68,69, &70, and each time I went to CRB it was bigger and different! We pumped a lot of money into that country!!! By the way, do you remember the outdoor pissers on the main base? You know the ones that only covered you from about the chest down!! I was taking a leak near the BX one day and saluted a AF Nurse ( a 1st. LT) when she walked by!! Boy was I embarrassed! She didn't salute back by the way!!! Man what memories, Ken
  3. Bill, The only time I saw or lived in the quonset huts was on my first trip to CRB in Dec. 67. Thanks for the pics, I forgot what they looked like! I think that was before Herky Hill was in operation ??? Gary, oh yeh, the 22nd replacement battallion!!! Where else would an Air Force "jeep" get properly equipped for the war? Then we would haul off our goodies back to Naha and look like war veterans!!!! Never mind the used jungle boots!!! Then came the black stripes! Ken
  4. Bill, that distant pic of the flightline must have been one I took on my first trip to CRB in 1967!On that first trip there were no revetments that I can remember. We were all just parked nose to nose. In 1969 and 70, when I practically lived at CRB, there were revetments!! So, I don't know when they were built. I was there in 68 a few times, but mostly I was at Naha doing my flightline duties like washing planes, towing refuel/defuel team, specialist dispatch/flightline taxi etc. Also did CQ in the barracks for 30 days!!! (hearing loss)! I also spent 90 days as a Blind Bat Crew Member in Ubon for 90 days in 68! Ken
  5. I remember them bringing kool-aid out to the flightline and passing it out on hot (very hot) afternoons. They were a welcome sight and I guess the kool-aid was okay too!!!!! Ken
  6. Will, I think that is the plane that I am thinking of! Yes, I do remember the cook outs well!! Sometimes someone would come up with potatoes also!! I also remember drinking all of the chocolate milk I could hold when aerial port showed up before daylight with several pallets of milk going in-country!! Those were the days!!!! Ken I see in that picture you guys have a "donut dolly" for company!!!
  7. Will , the pictures of the Herky carcass that I remember and can't find are none of the ones you posted. The one I remember was not as fresh looking as yours. It had no wings and I think, no flight deck area either. It was on the right hand side of the road going towards Herky Hill. It was all by itself just sitting/laying in the sand! I will eventually find and post that pic. My first trip to CRB was in Dec. 1967 and I stayed in quarters down on the main base (Not sure, but don't think Herky Hill was built yet), but after that, until my last trip in June 1970, I am sure it was there! Ken
  8. You know I think Luther must have been the projectionist at the movies for several tours as I remember everybody yelling at Luther for almost 3 years while I was attending the movies! We would grab folding chairs and beer and go to the movies as soon as it got dark! If I remember right the screen was the back of the chow hall and right next to the Red Cross Center. I also remember the guards down at the beach would fire their flares up in the air over Herky Hill to disrupt the movies. I think it must have happened at shift-change!!! Some of the movies were so old, that it took awhile to realize that we were watching reel 3 ahead of reel 2. I do remember the beer cans did no damage to the screen which I think was wood!!! One question, did we drink the beer warm??? I don't remember any coolers or ice being available!!! Ken
  9. Donwon, there was a C-130 carcass off to the right of the road going from the flightline to Herky Hill at CRB that no longer had wings etc. I had heard it was shoved off the runway by a bulldozer. It was there from 67 to 70 for sure! I do have a pic of it somewhere, and will post it when I find it!!! I don't think your CRS is as bad as you think it is!! Unless of course you drank too many of those rusty steel topped Carling Black Labels! I know I am going to apply for VA assistance due to over-indulgence! Probably would fall under the same category as Agent Orange!!!!! Ken PS, after further thought, I think the carcass was not too far from the terminal laying semi-upright in the sand!!!
  10. Dearstone, We probably know each other! I got to CCK in March 1969 and was also in the 314th OMS. I was CC on 62-1804. Here (hopefully), are some more pics I just scanned that will refresh your memory of "home" Ken
  11. Muff, you are the winner!! Many of us won't ever forget that place. I was there almost monthly from Sept 67-June 70 ! The slide copier I just got is an Image Box from Costco. It does both prints and slides! Film strips also. It is easier to used than the way I was doing it previously with a slide copier mounted on the end of a tele-photo lens. It is not complicated, but I still am learning how to use it! Ken I see Adorama also has a slide copier listed now! Looks similar to mine!
  12. Hopefully I can get some more to work!! I see I got the one of the Pan Am backwards!!! Ken
  13. Just got a new scanner for my slides so here are some previously unpublished photos of a resort area (sandy beaches anyway) that many of us spent a lot of time soaking up the sun at!! Ken I guess some of the other photos are too big????
  14. Yes, I do remember talking about the crushed glass--but never found any???? Do you remember the little lizards running around on the screens of the chow hall? I think the locals called them "kissee lizards" Good old days huh? Ken
  15. Tiny, My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family, Ken
  16. Casey, you did it again!!! I can now access what I couldn't before. You make it look easy!! Thanks again, Ken
  17. Casey, I just tried it again and I get the V Bulletin message that I am not logged in. It has the log in information with password and the log me in message. When I click on that, I get the message that I am not using the correct password. I think we had trouble with something like that once before and you gave me a new password for logging in! (of course I don't remember it--my computer does). I don't want to mess up my Forum log in information so maybe I should just order the stickers some other way!! Than ks for your help, Ken
  18. Casey, I was getting ready to order some of the stickers from the print shop, but I can't get in! It tells me I am using an incorrect password. I don't want to mess with it, for fear that I wouldn't be able to log in to the forums after creating a new password! Thanks for your help, Ken
  19. When I was a Crew Chief on 62-1804 until June 1970 it wasn't in E-Flight or an Air America bird and was still camo. When did they change that? Now, (at least less than a year ago), it is at Little Rock. Bobby Dugger a loadmaster sent me some very nice pics of it! Of course now it is gray!! Just one of the things that I do know that CRS hasn't screwed up yet. Ken
  20. While I worked on E-Models at CCK, I know for sure they all had the upper and lower bunks. Does anyone have a pic of the A-Model flight deck? I swear there was a bunk on the ones at Naha (67-69)!! Then again, I might not remember what I think I remember!!! Ken
  21. Built in 1868???? Man that house is older than our dirt in Montana!!!!! Neat looking house! It looks like it has a lot of possibilities!! Good luck with your move and restoration!! Ken
  22. I have posted this before , but this is the kind of little things that made my day in Vietnam! Other than the Acft. number being wrong, (should be 62-1804), Capt. Bandsuch told other crews, and pretty soon they all treated me like I could be trusted!!! Ken
  23. Dan, I have never heard a J-Model, and probably never will. But I will have to take your word for it. After your description, I am sure I don't ever want to hear a J! Especially knowing the sound is as wrong as two boys humping!!!! Ken
