  1. Way to go , Mark!!!! Thanks for 28 years for dedicated service to a great country that lesser people seem hell-bent on draggin' down. People like you will make that very hard to accomplish, though............Glad to share the c-130 gene withyou Giz
  2. DUHHHHHHH!!!! I deleted part of my post that mentioned that this was made into a movie, hence the Neil Diamond soundtrack................. Giz
  3. And we think we know somethin' about flying......Absolutely incredible. Reminds me of the Jonathan Livingston Sea gull stuff from back in the early 70's. there was all kinds of comparisons of bird flight to mechanical. It was written by Richard Bach, who I think was a f-84 driver at one time. Neil Diamond wrote some fabulous music for it, also. I flew a lot with a pilot who was totally engrossed with the whole thing and he'd talk about it all the time. Any of you old guys, remember this?? And you young guys check it out. Somewhere here at the house I have the book and I think an LP, yes an LP, with the music. don't know what the hell I would play it on. But this brings back some really great memories and feelings. Thanks, Don, for puttin' this on the board................... Giz
  4. A man after my own heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep it up! Giz
  5. Well, you met her, Jerry..................You are right, but sometimes I just can't control myself. She told me just after we got married that if she ever started actin' like her mother, i was to tell her. Things went fine for maybe fifteen years, but then..........so I says ' Do you sremember what you said about if you ever started actin' like your mother?" 'No, what???", W"well" ays i, with out thinkin'" You said to tell you if you ever started actin' like your mother, and I think the time has arrived.""""""""""OOOOHHH, mistake........ Really, I have been real fortunate to have kept her in my life all these years, how i don't know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Giz
  6. Well. I been married 39 years, and my wife is the most even tempered person in the world, She's mad ALL the time!!!!!!!!!!!! true story, she got her hair cut really short couple weeks ago, which is okay but I don't care much for it. anyway, one of her co-workers asked me if i liked it, i said "No, when I met her, she had long, dark hair. of course she still does, but now its in her ears and nose." Back to the couch again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Giz
  7. Good to see you are feeling well enough to post, Dan. Always great stuff from you. Hope things are trendin' in the positive range for you...Hang in there, brother!!!!!! Giz
  8. I guess that is because we were so busy in the back, Roy. I don't know how many LAPES drops I made, not that many, a dozen or so perhaps?????????? Worst event i was ever involved in, well at least that I was aware of, was the load coupler smashed a big hole in the ramp, possibly because it was movin' downward and the ramp was movin' up due to porpoising. At least that is what came out of the investigation. Best I remember, it took two or three tries to get the ramp closed and locked, probably due to to some twisting. I really thought anybody who rode the front of the bus should have to come back to see just what went on. WAY COOL though!!!! And hell yeah, I would do it all again anytime... if it was with the guys I flew with back then, especially......... Giz
  9. Okay, that's why the thing didn't look familiar to me. Thanks, guys. Giz
  10. somebody help my memory. I had, at one time, learned to operate the fuel panel, but can't for the life of me know remember all of it. In the picture of the panel above the the eng's seat, the switches are in the horizontal position, the ones on the right are diagonal.I remember something about crossfeeds and tank to engine and all that, but real real fuzzy...... Refresh my feeble memory. please.probably no difficulty at all for some of you, but remember I was just a dumb-ass loady. Besides when we rent that Herk next year at langley, I might want to try that seat, too..............at an additional fee i would guess.
  11. I got one of these at a Haz-Mat course I took, brought it home and showed my wife. Was fed a diet of cold shoulder and hot tongue for two weeks....... Obviously I did not think the process through!!!!!!
  12. Okay, guys, jump in here, spaces are goin' fast, and if you register now, jerry mitchell will come to your house, wash and wax your car, mow your yard, and walk your dog.......................................... If i can have the left paratroop door, I'm in for more!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. yeah, you got me there, Jerry. The chance to do that once again IS truly priceless........ Wouldn't that be cool as hell??? They brought a B-17, B-24 and a p-51 here last week and were charging, i think, somewhere between 300 and 400 dollars for a half hour on the bombers and like 2500 for the 51. I personally never knew of the family thing at langley, but that's not to say it never happened. Could easily have occurred during one of my absences. I know they just did somethin' like that in alaska with the C-17's there
  14. Best that is known right now, to my knowledge anyway, it will be next year in Hampton. I don't think much has been finalized yet, but I betcha the guys workin' on it will have some preliminary things pretty soon. Jerry Haines did a bang up job on the one in Dayton this past summer and he set the bar real high. It should be a good time, that's for sure Giz
  15. And, no, I ain't cuttin' my pony tail to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Giz
  16. Okay, I'm in for a hundred, but I get to do engine start!!!!!!!!!!!!! Giz
  17. Just remember the VA's philosophy" "Dead claimants means dead claims.""""""" I am still playin' with mine as well, but I've only been in the mix about 5 months..........Hell it takes 9 months to have a baby. Plus, i MAY have developed an issue that will change a whole bunch of things. still workin' on that, and it came as a BIG surprise........... And through all of this stuff we are goin' through, I still have the VA doc tellin' my Dad that he would cure his of emphysema, ringin' in my head. Musta been a hell of a doc, but Pap didn't live long enough to get cured. We really need to be careful, I think......As Dan so well states, you gotta have times, dates, places, on record for your dealings with them. They want that from you to prove every damn thing you claim, but it sure rattles the when you can say 'Oh No, mr. man, THIS is what I sent you and when , and who got it." I don't think anyone on this board is askin' for anything more than a fair deal that we felt may be important someday when we signed that big check that we would pay anything, up to givin' our life, for this country. At least we earned what we are entitled to, not just holdin' out our hand and sayin' "Fill it."" Just don't give up, they may finally settle up with you just so you will go away............... Giz
  18. Thanks to you all. My wife deserves the very best, that is why she has me! Oh, shit she just saw this!!!!!!!!!!!!Anyway, Bob, the priest that married us was so damned drunk the night of the practice i think we just propped him up in the corner and worked around him.... Giz
  19. "Bout all I can do for ya is lend ya some support and encouragement, for what that is worth..........Might not help the physical issues but maybe the emotional stuff. I am sure the rest of the troops on this site feel the same way. We may not be able to walk in your shoes, but we sure as hell can walk beside ya, right guys????? and if you need some explanation, etc. of any of your treatments, meds whatever, my wife says she would be glad to help you out. and believe me, she has her shit together when it comes to this sort of thing, of course she married me, so that ain't necessarily obvious. What do ya say, guys, let's raise a glass, say a prayer, have a moment of silence, throw a penny into a wishin' well, anything to give Dan a little more runway and a little more airspeed. he ain't out there alone, and just the luck of the draw that it ain't one of us in his situation. Hang in there, brother. Giz
  20. hey, Dan how ya feelin', all things considered................any improvement??? Giz
  21. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, you may be right, Larry. A little discretion may be needed, especially since today is our 39th anniversary..... Who woulda ever though that........
  22. Now I didn't say ALL I did was shoot rats!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! I think the Shoney's was over on Pembroke, if I remember right. I had a '70 SS Nova that was wicked quick and I bet I made five thousand laps up and down mercury blvd. Had soem hellacious fun down on Buckroe, too. Had atrailer down there......... Oh the times................. Giz
  23. Any of you old Langley guys ever go up to the big dump up by Poquoson, shootin' rats???? Especially at night. Used to go up there, sit on the hood of a car, goin' 'round in circles, and pop them with 22's and 22 mags. They'd even drag their buddies off after they were hit. Can you imagine doin' that now?????????? Just a brain blivet I had here. Anybody do any other things like that for giggles????? Giz
  24. How is it that only the really good AC's and NCOIC's would rip your ass for messin' up, when ya deserved it, and then that was the end of it, while the lame-ass ones never let it go?????????????? That was one lesson I learned that served me well many years later. And I learned that to do it the right way was really, really hard sometimes............Just one more benefit of bein' part of the trashhauler tribe, I guess giz
  25. bring it on, Chris................I think we would have a grand time. I think amongst all the stories, the truth may appear from time to time!!!! LOL!!!!!! really, some of the stuff that people on this site, and others that are not, have done and seen just is so out there, nobody but us could possibly believe them. A year ago, I met up with a guy I knew way back when, had some real fun times together, and my wife had know him as well. anyway, we spent probably16 hours or so together over two days and his wife and mine just sat with their mouths hangin' open listenin' to our tales. Course, maybe that was because we hadn't fed them in about ten hours............ Giz
