  1. Great looking models. Need to get my custom wood one ordered.... (not really patient enough to do a put together model.)
  2. EAA article Though they seem to have left out the C-130....
  3. For the military version AE2100D3: Alenia G.222 (C-27J Spartan, is the US Military) Has same engines / glass cockpit of the C-130J, LMAero and Alenia did a joint venture for the aircraft. ShinMaywa US-2 (Japanese Large STOL amphibious SAR aircraft) For the civilian version AE2100A Saab 2000 (50 seat regional)
  4. Explain the red and white prop tips. -someone got a wild hair up their butt to paint an aircraft outside USAF procedures? Explain why there is no paint defect or cover up in places where USAF markings would be? BUT they are where the RAF would be? -Parading around like a RAF aircraft in the dark of night? Explain the lack of formation lights. -Lockheed forgot to install them on some early model USAF Js? I believe the RAF is the ONLY J operator the doesn't have formation lights. Not directed at Fräulein directly, but anyone who says this is a USAF bird...
  5. Hmmm... Photo in question has... 1. Red and white prop tips. 2. No Sensors 3. No Formation lights 4. Paint is either painted over or photochopped at points the RAF has markings NOT USAF. Some photos of Maryland ANG Js. 97-1351 97-1352 97-1353 97-1354 1. NONE have red/white prop tips 2. ALL have sensors. -(and don't give me and crap about them being removed and blank offs being installed. There is NO difference in paint where blanks off could have been installed from the original paint. ) 3. ALL have formation lights. 4. ALL have markings where nothing is wrong with paint on photo in question.
  6. No. Supposedly the last four are a sequential number for aircraft assigned tail numbers in any given fiscal year. 09-6208 The tail number was assigned in 2009 and its the 6,208th number assigned, but what don't make since to me is that's way to many aircraft for one year. Plus I know the first two MC's are going to the 27th at Cannon AFB. (or least that's what's on the sticker on the side of the plane.)
  7. With red and white prop stripes?
  8. Probably not by much. P-3's fly around all the time with a AGM-84K SLAM-ER CATM(roughly 1500 lbs) on one wing, with no ill effects.
  9. FAA Shut down the last two MLS stations in 2008. MLS is a European thing like PILS
  10. Great job Alan. Not old enough to ever been over that way, but do like going back in history. Great website all the way around. Thanks.
  11. Pretty much now a days if your not a family member of an employee, or get lucky with a boy/girl scout or school tour your out of luck. Muff I believe got in on the Operator's conference tour. Which won't be another one of those till next year.
  12. Check the measurements... Air Farce is out to lunch sometimes as well... Does it say "Shall" or "Should"?
  13. Doesn't have to be same tread pattern. That's an old wife's tale. Matched set means the outside diameter of the tire/wheel assembly is within the required measurements. Have seen MANY, MANY fall to this and have two nose tires with SAME tread pattern yet the outside diameter difference between the two assemblies are out to lunch. So long story short, just because you changed tires, if the "new" ones are not matched, the gripe is still there.
  14. The reason tires that "Look" good are changed, or "can't find" the problem is because they are changing them for the wheel bearings.
  15. This one's probably still in paint. Only got shoved out the door week or so ago.
  16. Glad you were able to get an invite. Would say hope to see you there, but I work the 4pm to 130 shift. Have a good time.

    P-3 Spin

The article is a little off. The #1 wasn't in a "Simulated Failure Mode" (that would be power lever at flight idle, engine running) The engine was bagged. The #1 engine was restarted in the decent and is thought to be what saved the crew/plane. They were at 6000' and dropped to 24feet(as per SDRS, but with atimeter settings most likely around 74 feet), in about 18 seconds.(bout a 30,000 FPM descent). They spun the aircraft 5 times. Some crazy roll rates of around 20 degrees per second. At bottom of the spin they experienced a 5.8G rolling pullout. Negative G's was recorded at 2.4. When the incident occured they were at 160 knots, with the shut down of the #2 the crew got gauge locked on the #2 engine and they lost speed to down around 122. Power was applied to the #3 and #4 engines to regain airspeed, dumbass wing weenie that was PPC(Patrol Plane Commander) turned into the dead wing because they would have turned into a warning area, by turning into the good wing. So they put themselves into the the flat spin by not following the standard 3 rules, (they put aviate #1 over navigate for a reason, they found out the hard way) 1st pic is just aft of the Center L/E (inbetween the #3 and #4 engines) 2nd pic is insded the number 2 fuel tank 3rd pic is a aft radome latch.
  18. There's not really, one is Camp PERRY and the other is Camp PEARY. The later being in Virginia, and also better known as "The Farm" Also to note the later is a Naval Reservation, where as the one in Ohio is a National Guard Facility.
  19. Hmmm.... The Mighty Orion. The Lockheed P-3 Orion that is... And a few of them as well TP-3A UP-3A VP-3A P-3B P-3C NUD P-3C Update I P-3C Update II P-3C Update II.5 P-3C Update III P-3C AIP P-3C BMUP P-3C CDU EP-3E ARIES EP-3E ARIES Deepwell EP-3E ARIES II RP-3D
  20. Japan pretty much builds all of our aircraft under license... F-15, F-104, F-4, F-16(they call it F-2), F-86, P-3, P-2, T-34(they call it LM-1), SH-60(about to start those) Sad thing is their versions are better made.
  21. Pretty birds. 2 of the final 3(04, 05, 06) are in Final Assembly with the 3rd moving in next week.
  22. Interesting... As of late the only P-3's I seen go with US markings over the purchasing country was Pakistan. Greece, Thailand, and Korea's were all in full country colors of the purchasing country. So who knows. Even Iran's back in the late 70's early 80's went in Iranian colors. Though with those wild paint schemes would have been hard to "hide" who they were going to. LOL, Little worthless P-3 trivia. The Iranian P-3's were supposed to be in the standard P-3 white over gray scheme of the time. All the P-3's were in Moffett Field with the Iranian crews learning to fly them(they had a different set up as the US. A high ranking Iranian Official was in town to check on the training and the aircraft, and seen one of the Navy's A-4's painted in the aggressor squadron camo. The official liked that paint scheme that he demanded the Iranian P-3's be painted that way...
  23. I believe its more trying to keep our relations with Pakistan on the down low. More "Out of sight, out of mind" type deal, not really trying to hide the relations, just not overtly advertising them either. The Pakistani P-3's were flown over with all the Pakistani markings blanked out, with USN markings on stickers over the Pakistani markings. Then once the plane landed in Pakistan the USN markings were pealed. Or as Raven pointed out, maybe the Company is the ones really using them, not the DOD.
  24. Would love to see her restored. Maybe the Aviation Wing of of the Marietta Museum would want it. They are planning to start building it up here soon. Going to practically be on Lockheed grounds.
