FYI, 62-1862 is sitting in the new air power park in front of Scott AFB, Illinois. I'll get a picture as soon as I can.

I do not believe any type of KC-135s had an FE. I worked on the E model, with the TF-33 engine for a few years, and there was no such thing. Pilot, Co-pilot, Nav, and a Boomer. I'm not even sure where an FE would have sat if the old A models had one. Mmmmmmm (pondering)

Boeing just came out with the F-15SE (stealth eagle) with canted tail and hidden weapon bays. It is a 4.5 generation fighter. I wouldn't hold my breath on any new fighters. It is sad to think, but I am sure there is going to be a huge fighter gap in a few years, with the high time F-16s grounded, F-15s falling apart, and AF leadership crapping their pants waiting for LM to get the F-35 out there. just an opinion.

Well, someone must have complained about the prop, as it was nice a square yesterday! I will try to take a picture of it and post it here when they lay the concrete.

FYI 62-1862 just got put on permanent static display in front of the main gate at Scott AFB. It sits with a C-140, C-141, C-9A, and a KC-135E, and sometime, a C-21. IT looks good, but #2 prop was not fully squared, slightly crooked! Some things drive me crazy. www.scottfieldairpark.org

That was before my time, though we had a lot of fuel tank problems with the H3's we go from Martinsburg.

That is awesome, but no surprise. I took 1306 to the desert twice, and both times it had the highest FMC rate of all C-130s there at K2 and Manas. Heres a pic of 1306 at K2 with a few other birds. The one down the line is from St. Joe.

I might be thinking about the wrong thing. I thought AWADS was the countermeasure that was attached to the air deflector doors. Mmmmmm Now I am questioning my earlier response. -

I know the 179th AW Mansfield OH had them on all planes. 90-1791 thru 90-1798. We use to make fun of them and add a "G" to the front of it. Ah, those were the days. -

McDonnell Douglas/ Boeing use to have one at Smartt Field in St. Charles County, right outside St. Louis. They had a half scale F-15, an F-18 and the nose section of the X-32. I don't if they are still out there, but makes me wonder. Hmmmm

That's pretty much what happened to the Dyess bird in Bagram back in '07. I understand the forklift problem, but all these birds were closed up. Glad I'm not loosing my mind!

Okay, so I've never read this in any T.O., or heard why, but is there a reason to tie the yoke back during windy weather? I think it sound like a bad idea, but I thought I would ask the experts here. While in Bagram we had a transit crew from an unnamed base AD base in Texas who used a cargo strap to tie the yoke back. The wind and maybe other factors actually led to the yoke braking. Then yesterday here at Scott, two C-130s that were here also were tied back. I don't know this for sure, as a civi the SPs won't let me on the flightline and on to other peoples plane for some reason, but the elevators were up. I know this might be a stupid question, but it really has me curious! Even my limited knowledge of the herk does not jive with this. Help! Thanks, J

Times haven't changed that much! Two years ago in Bagram we changed three brakes along with lines. Tires were changed all the time from going into the unimproved airstrips. Gravel tears them up really good. Nothing sucks as much as changing a new tire due to huge cuts in the treads. I miss it though. Those poor antennae on the bottom of the birds, and the indoor main gear doors would look like someone blasted them with a shotgun.

As I understand it, Radomes (noses) come from the manufacturer black. They are usually painted grey as soon as possible, but sometimes the mission is more important than a trip to the paint barn. Any aircraft that you see that have a back nose have had a radome change recently. Sometimes they fly with the black for a long time, waiting for a phase inspection to paint it grey. I personally like the black nose.
