  1. They don't mention the 30mm. I wonder if they scrapped that idea.
  2. Dammit, there goes a nice TDY to hit the tables.
  3. Great. Then what should happen is that every C-130 in the inventory should go up to Atlantic City for 3-4 days for total system testing. This will be at least once a year, and consist of two flight crews (in case of DNIF issues), 2 crew chiefs, and a Comm/Nav specialist. I mean, if we're going to piss money away, let's not do a half-assed job, let's GIT 'ER DONE!! Maybe I can get a trip in before I retire next month...
  4. TERMINAL ITEM # (NON-STOCKED ITEMS) FUTURE PROCUREMENT IS NOT AUTHORIZED. NO WHOLESALE STOCK IS AVAILABLE FOR ISSUE. 1. REQUISITIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED TO THE WHOLESALE MANAGER. 2. INTERNAL SERVICE/AGENCY REQUISITIONING MAY BE CONTINUED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SERVICE/AGENCY REQUISITIONING POLICIES. It can still be ordered, as assets are available, one being at MN-StPaul. See note 2 and point it out to your "supply CUSTOMER SERVICE" people. The system is FMC without the antenna, unless you are doing touch and goes at the FAA test facility in Atlantic City. I tried to raise the BS flag on this when they talked about makimg a radome cover for it, but no one wanted to listen. Then I got into Sadism, Necrophilia and Beastiality, but soon realized I was just beating a dead horse.
  5. I went to the PGA championship there in 93 or 94, not sure which year, and it wasn't bad. That was at Pinehurst too. You won't see much of a problem in Southern Pines, if at all. Not sure you could afford the Pinehurst area. Location, location, location, and that is it. Of course, you could rent your house out at tournament time and make some good money.
  6. I sent my kids to St. Ann's through grade 8. Kind of expensive though. 14 aircraft assigned there. Being a big guy, I knew where all the good food places were. Tung Sing always had a good Chinese buffet.
  7. I thought they were using the mobile MLS units in the desert. I dunno...
  8. It's actually the second part that Mike Bischoff has down there. They jacked up the part number in the -4, Fig 22, Ind 260. What's a few misplaced dashes and a missing 0? Waste of money though, and I am not making this up, but the rear antenna is never used, as it is for Back Az only. The only Airport in the US that has back az for MLS is in Atlantic City. The mobile MLS stations are not back az capable. This fact makes it all the more funny that they built a radome to protect the antenna. Many of the antennas had to be reordered because of the late 90's "radome design fiasco", since they were misplaced when removed due to breaking off. So I'm thinking it probably cost half a million dollars or so to fix something that is of no use. There is one on base in Minn/St.Paul FB6231, warehouse location 01A013B047A, and they're only $3800.
  9. I lived up in the north end of town (up 401) when I was there, 92-98. Lots of folks lived in Hope Mills, but I just thought it was too far to drive. Now they have a freeway extension to 401 that wasn't there back then. It used to suck driving all the way back into town to get to the 95. There's probably a lot of real estate for sale and rent up by King's Grant. Not very much Army noise up there either. Couldn't tell you anything about tempo, don't know what you do either, since nothing is on your profile.
  10. Dave, the comm and nav radios are on the front lines as far as lightning is concerned, becasue of the antennas. That's why I am surprised I've only seen one issue that could be attributed to lightning. The static wicks do a fine job as a point of exit. I'm just saying that the internal workings of that housing would protect it.
  11. I'm old and I'm married, not dead, Fräulein.
  12. Pretty much nothing. I've been working avionics for a long time and can count the number of times I have seen a box suffer from a lightning strike on 1 finger. Lightning usually travels along the outside of an object, so getting internal to any particular item would be difficult. Worrying about that could be measured in micro give-me-a-$h!tz.
  13. Naw, I didn't go. Just getting too old for back to back events, as I wanted to do the, and I am not making this up, "Inflatables Fun" behind the playground the next day.
  14. This was an activity listing at a resort we were at in Orlando. This is just a wrong name for a scheduled activity, especially behind the playground. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
  15. Yep, that should work, and those are my thoughts.
  16. Make sure those shields are only grounded on one end of the cable. Check the run of the extension cable from the pilot's side to the pedestal and make sure there are no large AC cables running near it.
  17. I'm angry myself RZ. I'm glad to be hanging it up at this point.
  18. And I'm trying to vote all his socialist allies out of office today.
  19. From the 00JG-10-1 CAUTION Do not use mechanical restraining devices on flight controls unless it is not feasible to pressurize the hydraulic system or aircraft does not have hydraulic system capability. If mechanical restraining devices have been installed on the flight controls, deactivate the flight control system in accordance with TO 1C-130H-2-05JG-00-1, 05-00-15 and 05-00-16. Warning tags shall be installed on the pilot’s and copilot’s control yoke. Failure to comply with this requirement could cause severe structural damage. CAUTION When high winds are anticipated, both the utility and booster systems shall be pressurized every 72 hours. This applies to operational aircraft or aircraft that may be inactive for extended periods such as NMC or restricted aircraft that have operational hydraulic and flight control systems. If high winds persist, system re-pressurization shall be required every 72 hours. Failure to comply with this requirement could cause severe stuctural damage.
  20. Bag? The free computer bag is nice.
  21. I know RZ. And I'm thinking the same thing on the new brakes, wheels and Anti-skid system we are supposed to start seeing in FY 12. The program still has a few minor problems to be worked out, and then of course final approval. The plan is to give it a CPIN and distribute it like a T.O.
  22. Heard at the TCG conference that the plan is to get the new eTOLD out by next August. Computer based and very easy to use. Should cut doing a TOLD down to a few minutes.
  23. J402, Pin C, mixed audio in? Is this at the pilot's station? Is you pilot's interphone box on the pedestal, or side shelf? I'm a bit confused, since I don't know what pin C you are referring to.
  24. We ended up getting approval from the engineering staff not to do the inspections, since the aircraft didn't experience anything over 1.8Gs.
  25. Was there in '96 for Lockheed avionics training, saw the first J on the production line during our tour, and the first full scale F22 model built.
