  3. Over the years there have been many posts asking about a -1 online, well here it is in PDF format. http://www.kc130.com/Flight%20Manuals.htm
  4. Ah the good old days, when the only good thing about being stationed at Pope was you didn\'t have to go TDY to Pope.
  5. 17.5 feet that\'s a big prop, suppose thats why the braces between the engine and the fuselage?

  7. Charlie Brault was the FE on that mission, we all heard alot of stories over cold ones, like the marine that got killed holding the flashlight for Charlie, that Charlie had to jerry rig some of the hydralics due to damage. They were heros in our eyes. Another plane that took a beating around that same time acquired over 80 holes from a mortar or rocket attack, only two out of eight fuel tanks held fuel, but the crew got it back to Da Nang from Dong Ha. We heard that a crew from Lockheed came in a pieced it back together and flew it back to the states were it was put back together and returned to service. I saw it on the ramp at Da Nang it looked pretty sad.

  9. I have a video of Brian Haggerty singing the Herky Cannonball, I transcribed the lyrics and here they are. The word following KimHay I\'m not sure of, if some one knows what it should be let me know. Once more a piece history is documented. The Herky Cannonball as sung by Brian Haggerty She flies pretty good on two engines, On three it\'s not even a chore, And some of the old heads have told me, They have seen her flying on four. This song is about an airplane, that C-130 E I know that noisy bastard will be the death of me. We fly for General Ryan, and Bellville airlines too. So listen and we\'ll tell you all the things that we go through. Chorus Listen to the jingle, the rumble and the roar, As she staggers through the heavens like nothing you\'ve seen before, Shes painted green, shes ugly, she\'s known quite well by all, That four engined strato-pig called the Herky Cannonball. Our wifes call at the squadron, each day when we\'re away, They ask whoever answers \"What is their ETA\", The squadron aways tells them well it seems that we\'ve lost track, They\'ll be going to Kimhay just as soon as they get back. repeat chorus We left Clark for Kadena, a typoon to avoid, Her name was Kim, she was meaner than all the Huks we laid, We waited for the crew bus, we thought we would rot in hell. It finally came when the big Mac pukes were safe in their hotels. repeat chorus From Kadena to Okwang Ju with a load of rolling stock, Got almost to Orabhu, when the man in charge of chocks, Said, Pilot, turn this mother and turn it mighty fast, I got 40 puking jyreens and an H cart pissing gas. repeat chorus The Ego jet flies higher, and faster than the Herc, The fighter pukes get flight pay, but they never have to work, We hold so they can take off, we hold so they can land, They make alot of noise, but they haven\'t got a band. repeat chorus Well Kim Hay ALCE baju this is POGO 06 I\'m tooling around the pattern and I\'m waiting for the pits, I\'m number 5 in traffic and I\'m 13 touch and goes. Please get those mothers moving cause the chow pits about to close. repeat chorus We came out of Chu Lai one dark and stormy night, Had two engines feathered, the end was soon in sight, We called up command post, we didn\'t have long to fly, They said we\'re on our coffee break, in the meantime please stand by. repeat chorus Well here\'s to Col Horton, may his wing forever stand, He flies antique airplanes to every foreign land, Australia to Korea, we haul their bloody trash, And we know speed\'s not everything, when you got alot of class. repeat chorus
  10. http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/07/05/business/eads.php Here\'s another reason not to buy Boeing tankers. It looks to me that EADS has some real problems, like delayed delieverly of Airbus\', insider trading, pissed off shareholders and few assorted hicups. With the Euro being so strong against the dollar buying EADS could cost a bundle when the currency refloats to its real value. So I take back my suggestion.
  11. We could all start buying EADS stock and that way America would hold a major postion.

Thanks Dan I knew someone would be willing to tell the truth.

This may be a dumb question, but what are the two U shaped things behind the nose gear and at about the same F.S. as the crew door? Thanks bob woods
  14. Don\'t expect an answer, if you were tasked to do this, you would already know.
  15. Hey Bob I find it interesting that is was photographed operating out of Bullhead City AZ, across the river from Laughlin. http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1320241&size=L
  16. I\'m not sure what I\'m talking about, I remember doing pitch lock checks and looking for a certain rpm (104 ?), but I the only fuel topping I remember is the over the wing refueling to top off the tanks. Its been many years since I worked on hercs, since 73. I\'m amazed what I do remember, like all the bold face stuff is still in my head. Although I can\'t remember if its flaps or gear first.
  17. Hey Loadie, That sounds like the old Garden Plot alert duty. At Forbes I got called out for a trip to some place back east and stayed for days at some Marine base (Cherry Point?) in field conditions. Checked/set out
  18. If it was the maintenance people, or fellow FE\'s I would maybe think they were talking about the fuel topping governor and doing the fuel topping test during an engine run. Its been too many years for me, you have sprung lose a memory in my old mind. However the term \"Fuel Limiting\" comes to mind.
  19. From the old days of over the wing refueling? Back before SPR.
  20. Bob, Could they be Navy Tacamo birds? The paint scheme sure looks alot like one.

    Talon

Now that was a long take-off and very slow rate of climb. SEFEGeorge You guys should have flown ABCCC out of Udorn with a full of fuel and a full capsule on board.
  22. Thanks a transliteration is much better than a translation.
  23. \"Where they are born and finish the winged roads of the country\" Is what my translator says.
  24. I think it means \"winged\"
  25. Did I miss it or has the government of Iran failed to assess cause for the C130 that crashed into an apartment building?
