Early last Saturday morning Kevin Gaffney passed away at West Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia. After retirement he became a C-130 flight engineer simulator instructor at Dobbins ARB and settled in this area. Nearly 10 years ago he was diagnosed with cancer and has fought that battle ever since. In one of his last emails he said he had a GOD given talent for tenacity. Everyone around him knew how true that statement was, as I have never known anyone as determined and strong willed as Kevin in his long battle against this terrible desease. He will be surely missed.

Hi, folks, Now that I've retired from the Air Guard, I'm devoting my time to writing military-related novels. Just thought I'd let you know about my latest, titled THE WARRIORS. In a starred review, Publishers Weekly calls THE WARRIORS "a terrific addition to what has become an exemplary series." Most of the action in this novel takes place in present-day Bosnia and Serbia, with flashbacks to the Bosnian war in the 1990s. Some of it will sound familiar to those of you who flew the Joint Guard and Joint Forge missions back then. Here's a link to the Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/The-Warriors-Tom-Young/dp/0399158472 You can find more info on this book and …

I just recieved the following Email from Ron's brother Charlie, who has been keeping Ron's friends up to date on his battle with cancer. The last one had been positive and it appeared he was going to be getting up and around. Ron was a loadmaster at Langley (316th) and Clark in the 1960s. He was in the 29th TAS at Clark when I knew him in 1969-70. He left Clark early because he was upset because a mod bird flight went to Bernie Fierstein (Ron told me this in 2006) and decided not to reenlist. He took the next mod bird home and was discharged. He went home to Denton, TX but later reenlisted and got an assignment to C-141s at Norton. He became involved in special operat…
