Guest
I do believe that the E-model ABCCC airplanes were also UARSSI equipped, but I don't know whether or not they are still flying. John
bobdaley
62-1791, 62-1832, 62-1857 are ex ABCCC still flying now called C-130E 62-1863 ex ABCCC now an HC-130P 62-1818, 62-1825, 62-1836 in AMARC Bob
maden4797
Some HC-130P's have UARRSI. 64-4859 is now a C-130E that's equiped with UARRSI. Don't know which HC-130P's are though. I'll have to look around next time I'm out on the line.
Blackmac_Project
I think the only HC-130P's that have UARRSI are ones that are conversions. ACC doesn't think its important to have extended range by aerial refuelling they would rather have benson tanks. Engine Mike

frenchnavy
Many thanks for your answers but what's the meaning ABCCC? Regards
FLYBOY773
It stands for Airborne Battlefield Command and Control Center, It was a 19,000lbs capsule that went into the back of the EC-130. Archie There where some EC-130's that had UARRSI installed for the Iran Hostage rescue 62-1818, 62-1825,62-1857, 62-1809 was lost at dessert one. frenchnavy
Ok. Thanks for the explanation. I must admit I would be particularly interested in having BuAer of HC-130Ns and HC-130Ps fitted with an UARRSI. Regards

EClark
Was the ABCCC the same as the old talking bird we use to do them it was a big slide in with a lot electronic stuff.
ang012
That was what we called them. They would come into cck for phase in 68 when I was there.
tinyclark
We do indeed have the UARRSI on our HC130P, 62-1863, but they do not use it. No one is qual'd for it, and it hasn't flown but maybe 25-30 hours since we got it two years ago.
Jeffysan
Just to be technically correct. UARRSI instls on the ABCCC fleet predate the Iran hostage rescue mission. About half the fleet of 7 acft had it when the embassy fell & the decision was made to do the mission. The ABCCC birds were used because of the -15s, UARRSI, & (sans the capsule) the entire cargo comp was avbl for the mission.
Tim Martin
The only HC-130P aircraft that has UARRSI is 62-01863. It was converted from a ABCCC to a tanker at great expense by Lockheed. No other HC-130p, N or (H)N aircraft has it.
yawdamper
Curious why 62-1863 is seeing limited flight time? Also, all J model aircraft are equipped to accept the Arpus Probe on the left fwd fuselage for inflight refuelling except for HC/MC production aircraft that are equipped with UARRSI from the factory. First 2 of those currently in production.
Dan Wilson
Was the ABCCC the same as the old talking bird we use to do them it was a big slide in with a lot electronic stuff. One very large suppository or alien rectal probe, whatever you want to call it:D
tinyclark
As Bob said, the only HC-130P that has UARRSI is an old ABCCC airframe, 62-1863. This aircraft is in a 64 model configuration now. A total of 6 were supposed to be converted, but that didn't happen due to funding. It's a good thing too, that aircraft was AFU as far as system wiring was concerned. US Herk
The Austrians are flying 3 x former RAF C-130K w/probe, but are not refuelling to my knowledge.
Wil Sanchez
Archie, you have an enviable carreer on herks. Did you start out on ABCCC and when? I was on 62-1809 in Da Nang in July of 1967. I have never heard anyone talk about the ABCCC's flying out of Da Nang in 1967 before the attack on July 15th. I have also never heard anyone talk about 62-1815 which was our backup plane and was destroyed in the same attack. Another question for everyoe and anyone. When did they upgrade motors to the -15's? GACFaja
As Bob said, the only HC-130P that has UARRSI is an old ABCCC airframe, 62-1863. This aircraft is in a 64 model configuration now. agarrett
Hey Dan Wilson, you mentioned in another thread that you flew an airplane that had UARRSI installed by Rockwell. Which one was that?
Jeffysan
I know they - Rockwell - did at least one Shadow @ PMD in the early 90s & thought more were done. Up 'til then LAS-Ontario had done all the C-130 UARRSI mods; Gunships, Talon 1, ABCCC, Compass Call, Rivet Rider, et al.
tinyclark
With all the problems they had getting her converted, I'm surprised that Frankenherk is flying at all. Poor thing. The main reason it is flying is Tim Martin. He went through all the diagrams, checked the aircraft, and found many, many problems. I minorly assisted him with this, and it was one hell of a project. I'm so glad they didn't do all the other aircraft they were supposed to do. One klusterf*<h was enough. BTW, I worked on Frankenherk, 64-0539, quite a bit. I prefer to call 1863 Frankentanker.
